Headaches and irrational thoughts

Right there with you Gene.  I like to read abstracts and journal entries that the psychologists and mental health pro's at my work write, along with the international journals.  That's where a lot of my understanding, and misunderstandings came from. Gotta be 10% smarter then the equipment you work with, same goes with the material you read.

The better my mind state becomes, the more sense I make from the journals.  Is this the same for you?

Fear of Listeriosis....

Anytime, Diva!  :o)

Funny you say that Dee, I'm supposedly not allowed to give blood because I lived in England when mad cow had it's first "outbreak".   Wonder if that's why my dad went from being a Vet to USDA...kind of a big change.

A bit discouraged at the moment...

Miki:  Far as your husband is concerned, you're doing what you can, and doing good at that!

As far as the other people reading our stuff, I figure the only people who really see it are those who suffer from the same condition we do.  We aren't on AOL or linked to any open field websites like that, so we aren't open to everyone...just people who search for it, or have been referred by someone who knows what this place is for.  So your strength to be open might give them strength to do the same.

Aha, how many of us have started out by saying "I browsed through here for awhile before posting..."

Bleurgh !

Ooooooh, you're from England!  THAT explains why I can relate to some words you use...I use to live there!  West Ruislip, about an hour from London, right next to Ickenham and Windsor....waaaay back when Princess Diana was still around.  Talk about a classy, down to earth princess.  And I miss fish and chips so much, they don't even come close to the same taste here in America.

Anyhow, 5 kids?  And 2 young men?  Holy shnickeys, you must keep a cricket bat on hand to keep them in order.  How you keep your sanity is beyond me, and a definite kudo's  for doing what you do.  Lol, the older ones wear you down mentally, then the younger ones wear you down physically...it's a vicious cycle!

Driving Alone

Driving is one of my releases!  Mind you, I still have the whole social anxiety part I'm working on, which can come to play while driving...but sometimes a drive out to the middle of nowhere with no map is just what I need.  No focus, no fear, no thing but the tunes coming out my speakers and new scenery all around.

What is fear?

Thanks Gene and Breanne, you're compliments made my day!

Darkblue: you're post hit me.  Made me think about my attacks a bit deeper.  Really, I haven't had a panic attack for awhile, or if I had then I've gotten to the point where I can handle it.  Really the absence of fear is an ignorant hope.  No person who has ever done anything important, or not important has been without fear.

But changing it from fear to awareness does have it's perks.  It makes you look at the situation you duck and covered from before, and handle it face on.  Pavlov's theory I think it's called.  Condition your response into something you would want, after doing it enough times it becomes you.

But this is just one man's journey, does anyone else have any personal insights that helped them?

The three components of panic & anxiety

Physical sensation:  My heads going to implode!
CBT:  Who, what, where, when, how....?
My common reaction was to shutdown, invert into my own little world, more or less.  An avoidance behavior.

Myth or Fact?

Being a military brat, I've seen many walks of life.  In seeing this, I've come to realize each place I've been to, the people are the same.  You have people who may be mentally ill, people who are nice, mean, etc., etc.  Of course some of the lingo differs, but I mean the overall general "feel" to the people.  And all walks have these groups, rich, poor, middle...whatever.

Having a disability means nothing, having the ability to overcome yourself is everything.  We have this opportunity when no one else does.  Forget feeling sorry for us, we have a chance to do what so many aren't, can't even.  I'm taking this broken train until the tracks end, simply because it's my train.
