Newbie! Any other Christians here??

Well Faith, getting panic attacks for fear of vomiting may seem weird, but how about panic attacks from getting panic attacks?  (That's how it was for me for a bit)  No matter how weird we may think we are, there is always somewhere weirder, or just as weird.  And as for your initial 3 questions, I'm Christian as well and I've pondered the same, and this is what I came up with (mind you just opinions, I'm a little blunt so I say what I feel but am VERY open to any other opinion):

1.  Fear does feel like a sin, it feels like a lack of trust. Personally this pushes me to let go, trust that the truth will come in time.  Go figure, a sin causes stronger faith.

2.  Fear is a habit.  Ever heard of Pavlov's theory?  It's a conditioned response.  But just like today becomes tomorrow, new things come whether we accept them or not.  Why not accept the one's we want, and thus start a new pattern?

3.  I agree, this is the new thing I'm coming to realize and have a great time with!

Nice to meet you too!  You already sound like you're well on your way!

What is fear?

Mine is a bit different then anything I've read so far.  I don't fear dying or fainting, I just shut down.  Like the little kid that's been scolded, I avoid eye contact, and kinda crumple myself up.  I hear you, but I can't respond sorta deal.  Actually, it's happened quite often at the place I work at now.  Seems like showing that side, makes me a little more comfortable with the person, because they saw it and still choose to talk to me.  And yes!  The anticipation is the worst part!

Myth or Fact?

Aha, go figure.  Your current disorder was the answer you needed for the pessimism.  So really, it saved you from the previous disorder.  The half empty cup just keeps emptying out until you have an empty cup...now the real question I'm wondering...what are you going to fill that cup with?  I say kool-aid...you've got so many flavors to choose from, and it's sweet!  Everyone loves sweet.  Or is that just me?  Ok, maybe just I love sweet....point is, YOU now have a choice, so go for something you like.  If you don't like it you can always empty it out again and fill it with something else.  Who cares what's in the cup, you have a cup!

Daily exacerbations

Alright, so today I had a sorta setback/not setback.  I began feeling those same feelings that normally lead into a panic attack.  Normally.  But this time I just felt those feelings, went for a drive during my lunch half-hour at work, came back feeling better.  Not completely, but noticeably.

Now not having the panic attack and not ruining the rest of my day is awesome, like taking a bath after going camping for a couple days. So I feel accomplished in that sense, rewarded even!  (not having a day dampening attack is kinda cool!)

But what I'm curious of, is how everyone else overcomes those feelings that lead into panic attacks.  How to stop at the start, or soon enough after the start so as to still be able to heal oneself.  I try the breathing, and meh, it has moderate results.  The thing that works best is thinking nothing, absolutely positively nothing.  Listening to the birds chirp, cars go by, whatever is moving in this big ole' world of ours.  But sometimes this is a frikken challenge!  Like today, I came back, but still had lingering lumpthroats (sorry, I had to try to expand the definition as whatever queues the ruin of our focus!  did it work?).  Any suggestions?

First day to my new life style.

The last two sentences you wrote sound like a successful minded person to me.  Good stuff!

Daily exacerbations

I like that.  There will be days when nothing will work, and it's ok.  It has a relieving, almost invigorating feeling to it.

You know, society is a pretty vague term.  Breaking this down kinda works for me.  I figure it like this, society isn't a whole.  There are those who will accept, and those who won't.  Those who will, are the ones who love us, have been through what we go through, or are just generally good people.  Those who won't, don't understand, or don't care to.  I figure I'll keep on keeping on for those who will smile for us, help those who don't understand (that are willing to try to understand), and not care about those who don't care about me.  I like things simple, but in a complicated way.  I'm contradictive like that...I think it's the Irish in me.  Anyways, hope I was able to help as much as you did me!  Cheers!

Hello from New Zealand

Hello Casey,

You're welcome here!  Sounds like you have panic attacks like us, and the great thing about panic attacks is that you can overcome them!

If you don't mind my asking, what were the options the doctor told you would help?

Oh, and you don't have to take meds if you don't want to.  (I DEFINITELY understand not wanting to use meds...made me feel like I was crazy!)  However, if you ever choose to go to a doctor, there are pages on the internet with questions you can ask them.

Feel free to come on here and vent whatever you want.  Sometimes I have those things that make me feel crazy, many times I think those things are crazy!  Venting helps.

Myth or Fact?

Oh, and a late response to the settle-for-less thing.  A disorder is a disorder and a disability is a disability.  We can't change the meaning of the word, but we can define the weight the word holds.

For instance, look at Christopher Reeves.  Doesn't get much more disabled then that.  But he still went out and did everything he could...

Myth or Fact?

That's what I'm figuring out now, how you define words and how you're opponent sees them.  Simple words that seem like nothing to us, hold a lot of meaning to others.  I try to play with it until I figure it out.  It can be a lot of fun!  Aaaand it can get to be too much for some.  But boundaries are meant to be tested, and those who are willing to tell me what theirs are, I oblige.  Those who won't, well how can I know?
