Quitting today

6 years ago 0 8 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Thanks Ashley.  I know it is probably not recommended to have NRT and Chantix at the same time...   it was a desperation move :)
I am only using the NRT gum occasionally and alternating it with regular gum.  My plan is to reduce and eliminate the NRT over the next couple of weeks.

Thanks again...

Hi James31518,

I think it's amazing you are continuing to talk yourself out of your cravings even though you feel obsessed with smoking thoughts. You are very strong to fight off an obsession! How are you rewarding yourself for getting past milestones? You deserve to be treated for your perseverance and rewards help solidify the quit process.

You may want to talk to your doctor or pharmacist about the effects of taking Chantix with nicotine gum; I cannot advise in that respect.

Keep staying strong!

Hi James,
Since you quit before for a year, you know it's a constant struggle to regain control of your life free from nicotine, at least in the beginning. Once you have it under control you hardly ever think about smoking again, well most of the time. Glad to hear you've made it through the 1st day!   On to day two, then day three, and before you know it you've got whole week that you've been smoke free. Keep fighting those urges, they'll subside in time. Remember YOU are in charge now not the nicotine.
I wish you the best on your journey to freedom. Stay strong.

Hi Ashley, it's quite a struggle but I made it !  The addiction keeps trying to tell me "forget it, let's go get some cigarettes", but I keep telling myself let's NOT do that and this is going to get better.  I don't know if this is easier or harder than the first time I quit -- I am taking Chantix but the obsession to smoke is still strong.  I also have some pieces of the nicotine gum around and I am using them - I know I'm probably not supposed to use those at the same time as Chantix but I don't care - I will do whatever it takes to get me through until this gets a bit easier.

Hi, just wanted to introduce myself.  Today is my quit date - I hope it sticks !  I had quit (cold turkey) for about a year but then slipped up and ended up smoking for a couple more years.  I am using Chantix but don't know if it helps much since I still feel like smoking.  Anyway, look forward to connecting with people on this site.
