Shortness of breath

Congratulations Willem! I am very impressed you went cold turkey. You must be one tough cookie!

It is hard to say if it is anxiety or withdrawal related. If you are doubtful of your doctor's diagnosis you may want to get a second opinion.

Keep us updated on how you are doing.

Hi Willem,
100 days is a wonderful milestone on your quit journey. Triple digits!  Be sure to reward yourself for all your efforts. It "could" be anxiety your are experiencing with your breathing, but only a doctor can say for sure. Your doctor told you he thought you had emphysema but your lung function says otherwise? Was this a peak flow test? Do you have shortness of breath too? If you're still worried I'd recommend you go back to your doctor and tell him your concerns.
After 23 years of a pack and a half a day, you probably do have reduced lung capacity compared to a non-smoker, but your body is a wonderful mechanism and it has already started the healing process. No one can say exactly how long it will take to repair itself, it's different for everybody.
5K in 29 minutes? Shoot, I can only go 1.6 K in 30 minutes, so you've got me there!
Stay strong!

Hi My name is Willem, Today I am 101 days quit. I did it cold turkey. I was smoking 30 a day for 23 years and I am 38 years old. I run regulary even when I smoked. I complete 5 k in 29 minutes. However I feel like I cant take a deep breath, Is this possibly anxiety. Because docter says it emphycema but my lung function test shows lungs are 110% of prediction. When will this go away?
