Hi Bigpoppy!

Just wanted to send a welcome and a few words of encouragement your way...

Please know:
--this is very do-able--for right now just get through one hour/minute or one crave at a time
--ice water, ice water ice water
--spend alot of time reading old posts. There is alot of wisdom and hope here.

YOU CAN DO THIS!!!! It's a great new way of life. FREEDOM:)

,
Deb

Hey Bigpoppy!!

Keep on hanging tough, buddy!!!  We all know exactly what you are going through!  I am also wondering if you chose to it cold turkey or if you decided upon an NRT.  I tried the nicotine gum once and cold turkey a few times to no avail!  I just couldn't seem to get past those gut-wrenching craves!  After hearing about Chantix and how it really helped to minimize craves, I started on that, found this site and here I am now...  a non-smoker!  If you are trying this cold turkey, you might want to consider a NRT product!

Right now, that nico-demon is yelling and screaming like a spoiled child wanting it's fix!  The pleasure centers in your brain are also wanting their fix!!!  Be sure that you have that reward system in place, because they really do help to get some endorphins flowing, which will help with the craves!

Keep on reading and learning how to better cope with those cravings!  Keep that reason for quitting list readily available and just read it over and over when those craves come along!  One thing that really helped me those first few week was to combat a crave by walking up the stairs while rhythmically breathing deep with every step!  I'd also make up little songs in my head while doing that...  like "I'm gon-na kick that demon's ash!"  That was a 4 step phrase that I would just repeat while hiking!  I'm telling you, I overcame many a crave doing that!

Keep on kicking ash, buddy!!!

Hi Bigpoppy!

Congrats on making it through the 2nd lunch break.   I know how freakin' tough that is!  Take each craving at a time...wait 5 mins and then see how you feel...jump on here and see who in online.

As for the shakes, are your taking any NRTs or just going cold turkey?  I've tried both and it was just easier to ween off with the patch so far.  Choose what works for you to help you through this.

Don't forget to reward yourself for the "wins" each time you get through a craving!!

Keep up the quit...you will do this if you want it more than you want to smoke.
