Gumpy , don't get grumpy you have to Stand Your Ground cos you are not at fault. avoid these sorts of people at all costs, it's there choice to play mind games & live a life of misery .... not yours. good stats btw My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/1/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 1062 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 37,170 Amount Saved: $6,903.00 Life Gained: Days: 151 Hrs: 19 Mins: 46 Seconds: 8

Gumby, You've heard the old saying 'misery loves company' I think that is the way it is with smokers. This day and age everyone knows it is unhealthy (if not just dumb) to smoke. You know how hard it is to quit. Some people would rather find fault with you than look at themselves. Conflict is never good so I would suggust distance. Be the bigger person. I think you already are. Who is making the effert to better themselves by not smoking? You. It doesn't matter what they think. Keep your quit. Set an example for them...........In-Laws make me shiver.......lol My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/4/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 148 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,960 Amount Saved: $592.00 Life Gained: Days: 19 Hrs: 16 Mins: 45 Seconds: 16

Thank you everyone for your words of inspiration. Just to update you my mother in law has chosen not to speak to me anymore and now has my sister in law involved. All of this because I chose to speak up for myself. I really am very proud of myself for quitting smoking. I don't need them to pat me on the back but a "good for you" would be nice. Instead they continually give me negative feedback. These are woman who feed on others insecurities. My sister in law still smokes and has looked down on me since day 1 of my quit. It has been extremely difficult dealing with them. This has now caused a major rift in the family. Thank God, my husband has quit and he is my main support person. I wonder if they think I made him quit or something and that is why they are upset. Why can't they see that quitting is a very positive thing? Gumby, This is your quit and you are doing it for you and nobody else. Don't let any one get in you way. If your mother in law can't support you right now then you either need to ask for her support or take a bit of time away from her. Also, make sure you are giving yourself little rewards every now and again to keep your motivation up. Be proud of yourself, 133 days is a great accomplishment. Brenna, Bilingual Support Specialist

Gumby, I think we all get cranky now and then, whether we ever smoked or not. At least in our family we do ;) Many of us used to deal with "unpleasant" situations by smoking, so part of this process is learning how to deal with them in more positive ways. And sometimes that means saying things we feel that in the past we wouldn't have said. That doesn't mean we are crankier, it just means that other people now know when something bothers us. Sorry your mother in law doesn't know any better than to say something like that to you. But, as Freedom said, don't let it affect your quit. You're doing just great, and of course smoking won't make you less cranky, it will just make you a smoker again. And we don't want that. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/22/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 249 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,960 Amount Saved: $1,693.20 Life Gained: Days: 34 Hrs: 18 Mins: 45 Seconds: 51

People can say many mean things when they are angry. Don't take it to heart and remember that this does not give you a reason to smoke. She was probably just trying to get a rise out of you and get under your skin. It's the same with any other thing that someone throws in your face when you are upset, angry, etc. Don't let it get to you. Next time you talk I'm sure she will recognize that it wasn't a nice thing to say and I am sure she is supportive of you quitting. Don't get discouraged by someone else, encourage yourself!
