I think we all get cranky now and then, whether we ever smoked or not. At least in our family we do ;) Many of us used to deal with "unpleasant" situations by smoking, so part of this process is learning how to deal with them in more positive ways. And sometimes that means saying things we feel that in the past we wouldn't have said. That doesn't mean we are crankier, it just means that other people now know when something bothers us.
Sorry your mother in law doesn't know any better than to say something like that to you. But, as Freedom said, don't let it affect your quit. You're doing just great, and of course smoking won't make you less cranky, it will just make you a smoker again. And we don't want that. :)
