Smokiejoe, Glad to hear you are still hanging in there! DON'T give up on yourself Smokiejoe. My husband I quit together and used Chantix. Hubby had several slips, but continued to take the Chantix and continued in his efforts to stop smoking. We are now six months smoke free. You CAN do this, too! Make sure you follow your doctors guidance as far as taking the Chantix. My husband's doctor participated in the Chantix studies and he encouraged my husband to take the Chantix for SIX months. The studies have shown that success increases dramatically when patients take the drug for the full six months. Talk to your doctor and see what he recommends for you. With that having been said, it is a good idea to get rid of cigs at your home. If you have them easily available, it makes it too easy for you to fall back on the smokes. Don't give up and KEEP on trying Smokiejoe. We're all cheering you on! Hi Smokiejoe, I too am on chantix I also have headaches, I am presently trying to wean off by taking 1 pill in the morning every other day, When I tried to stop all at once I had wicked strong cravings so when back on 1 per day rather than 1 in the morning and 1 in the evening so far so good I do feel the difference but that of course is expected. Hope this is of some help to you. We are all in this together, so never feel alone and if you need support you know where to find it. Smokiejoe, Welcome to the SSC! To my knowledge, the headaches are likely from the quit itself as opposed to Chantix. Tension is usually the culprit. Try relaxation techniques or a hot shower and for the sleeping disturbances, try the following: Try to get on a sleep schedule. Go to bed at a regular time each night and get up at a regular time in the morning. Try to not stay up late watching TV and try not to sleep during the day. If you get on a sleep schedule, we guarantee that youll begin to feel better. Try to make the room you sleep in as quiet as possible. Consider ear plugs or a sleep mask. Use your bed only for sleeping. Dont lounge around in your bed. If you spend too much time lounging in bed, watching T.V., drinking coffee, or eating, your body will learn that your bed is NOT a place for sleeping. If you cant sleep after half an hour in bed dont stay in bed trying to sleep. Get up and do some quiet activity. For example, read a book for a half hour and then try going back to bed. If you still cant sleep, get up and do something quiet once again. Try to keep your bedroom at a comfortable temperature - not too cold and not too hot. Try to get some exercise every day. Youll feel better and sleep will come much quicker. Try not to exercise or work hard late in the evening. It could make you feel wired. Dont drink anything with caffeine or alcohol for 4 hours before you go to bed. Try not to eat a heavy meal in the evening. Dont eat just before you go to bed. If youre not sleeping at night, avoid naps during the day. Use relaxation techniques. Box breathing may help you relax at bed time. If that doesn't help. Consult your doctor as the dosing may be adjusted to minimize the side effects. Hope this helps. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

57 days! That's great, Joe. But remember you can be a smoker and a quitter too. Get rid of any cigarettes and other paraphernalia you have around. The secret to quitting is don't smoke! Hey Joe, No, quitting is not easy. That is why it is best to take it one day at a time. You will hear that a lot but it does work. You are not alone, we are all in this together. Just know that you have support here. And there is so much information here on this site from people that have been quit longer than us and those who have been quit for a shorter amount of time. And even those not even quit yet! We all have something to learn and something to give. I have heard from people that have quit with chantix, and those who have quit without chantix, that they had headaches as side effects or "recovery symptoms". I took chantix and did not experience headaches. I do know that if you stop taking the chantix you do not automatically want to, or have to ,go back to smoking! that is up to you! The chantix helps but it is not a miracle. Joe, you have to work on it and stay strong. Ok, try to be smokieNO instead of a smokiejoe!! :) :) :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/21/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 86 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,580 Amount Saved: $412.80 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 16 Mins: 19 Seconds: 44

The Chantix if giving me headaches and some bad nights of sleep, but I know if I stop using it I will go back to smoking. I have had some slip ups, but I keep trying. Hope all of you are doing well in your quit. It's hard, but we are in this together. Hang on everyone.
