Thanks John! I love the cat! This is day 18 and the third week does seem a bit better. My husband and kids spent most of the weekend throwing away anything in or around our house that is related to smoking. I feel bad that my kids where outside picking up dirty cigarette butts because of me and makes me think how much I do not want to put them through that again. Then my husband bought me new running shoes so I can start running now that I can breathe better. I am hoping this Monday will be a start of a whole new me. I have a clean house and yard and clean and healthier body!

Hey Jeni, Sorry you are having some difficulties today. Just remember they are only temporary. Shame on what you said about the lung cancer. It is a slow and agonizing way to go and who would help take care of your children! The mean streaks come and go. I am still in witdrawal so I posted this photo of our cat Teddy with attitude. The expression is how I feel sometimes. Good news is that it is short lived and gets better every day. :) A comedian once said you can use these terms and get away with just about anything. Ether begin with "With all due respect,..." Or end with "Now I don't mean that in a bad way." And you can combine them for even more fun. Example: With all due respect, that cigarette smoke on you really smells like crap! Or how about. Those yellow teeth make you look like a sicko, now I don't mean that in a bad way! With all due respect, cigarette companies should be shut down because they are nothing more then incorporated drug pushers, now I don't mean that in a bad way.... ;) Feeling better! Enjoy the meanstreak, YOURE ALIVE!! jeniwho, you made it through 15 days!! the hardest part is over, and the good news is, you will never have to deal with it again! woohoo! l know it is hard to stay positive sometimes, but remember how strong you are, how else would you have completed these 15 days?? and handy.. you are right, being on the website makes me think about smoking more, but you know what? l will think about it anyway and there is nothing wrong with it unless what you think is to smoke or not to.. and thinking about it in such a supporting atmosphere makes me feel more safe.. you know what l mean?? we are all in this together so we have to learn from each others mistakes as well as our own. but if you think it is not helping dont hang around much. just come here when you feel like you need a little help or support.. it's not the web site that's causing you to crave, it's your brain demanding you give it nicotine. I know how hard this is, I have tried before. Try screaming into your pillow, let your family know this is only temporary and that the mommy they remember will be back soon. They love you, no matter what. Hang in there. :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 7/10/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 4 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 80 Amount Saved: $16.00 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 14 Mins: 30 Seconds: 56

jeniwho There is a post you may wish to review by ladycigevicot in the Coping with Withdrawal section...I think it is called Ask for help...She describes in a sort of contract form the things that non-smokers need to know about her quit...You might want to read it and modify it for your own needs...People who have never smoked have a hard time understanding why we have a hard time quitting...That is understandable and you might be better off if you try to explain it to them... nonic My Milage: My Quit Date: 12/25/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 201 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 6,030 Amount Saved: $1,407.00 Life Gained: Days: 36 Hrs: 17 Mins: 54 Seconds: 11

Thanks for all the encouragment. I made it through yesterday and I am sure it will get easier. I just feel like a basket case and can not believe it is this hard. I have a great support system, but almost all my family and friends have never smoked so they have no idea why I am so crazy. I however have smoked since I was twelve. I do not really even remember life without it and I feel like I have to learn how to drink a cup of coffee and deal with my emotions all over again. I will continue though. Thank you.

Hi jeniwho, I think it's normal to be irritable during the first weeks. I was all over the place during my first month - crying, sad, angry. Underneath all of though I knew I needed to get through all of it and was grateful for what I was leaving behind. Your loved ones are called that because they love you and they want the best for you. Quitting is definitely better than smoking. It will get better. Go through the online program too, it will give you some strategies to keep going. You are doing great! Handy, Welcome to the SSC! Unfortunately, this site is not for everyone and some have found it helpful to take breaks from reading through the forums. Any particular reason or scenario you're scared you won't be able to face? Maybe we can help. Danielle, Bilingual Support Specialist

Handy, "You have to want to quit as bad as you want a cigarette". When I first came to this site I read that & decided the quit was what I wanted the most, also the more you allow yourself to think about a cig. the more you want one. It will get easier. Handy, Some people say it makes them think about smoking more. Some don't. Yes it is unfortunate that you are have just come on when someone has slipped. I can teel you, it usually happens in spurts. There will be one or two slip and then a month later, one or two. We are naive if we think everyone is going to make it, but we are all TRYING! Handy, I myself can't read some of the slip posts, it upsets me. I am not sure why or how to exactly deal with it sometimes, so Iread the ones I want to read. The motto here i stake what you need and leave the rest, and that is my advice to you... Read the posts that you want to read, the knowledgeable ones, that will help you, and someday maybe the others won't bother you much either. The other thing I can tell you is if you do that (just read the ones YOU want) you will find this to be a very helpful place! Let me know! :) My Milage: My Quit Date: 3/5/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 130 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,250 Amount Saved: $1,371.50 Life Gained: Days: 15 Hrs: 22 Mins: 57 Seconds: 48
