Hi, Al. Congratulations on your decision to quit smoking and welcome to the SSC. If you haven't already done so, I strongly suggest you work through this site's Online Quit Program. There is a ton of good information and tips that will help make this quit successful. Learn as much as you can about quitting. Read much, post often, and let us know how you're doing and if we can help. This is a wonderful thing you've chosen to do for yourself and those around you. :) Shevie My Milage: My Quit Date: 5/23/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 475 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 9,513 Amount Saved: $1805 Life Gained: Days: 88 Hrs: 16 Mins: 17 Seconds: 50

Al, Penitent is right. It can be done and it takes determination and commitment. You have to have sheer determination to say it doesn't matter who's chattering in your head or what they're saying, you're not going to light one. Don't have any around you and don't be around smokers. Just make up your mind. Fight through any craves, fears, and whacky thoughts. Just push through. There are lots of us on here who are older, who smoked for a long time, who quit a lot of times, and we have made it. We are here as witnesses that it can be done. And it doesn't have to be tried 5 or 6 or 7 times...that isn't the key. What IS the key is that you never smoke another cigarette. Good luck. You can do it!
