Breaking a Rebuilding Trust

You tell him Shevie !!! I say we take him out back and hogtie that liar up until he shows some real regret for his lieing !! Neek.. lieing about smoking .. you might get people to believe you are getting somewhere when in reality you are still hurting yourself and adding others in to be hurt. It hurts to be lied to. Trust is real important.. Keep trying dude.. you get a clean slate if you promise never to lie to your girl again.. Kick the NIC demon.. right in the head.. he's a liar too !!! Hang in there ! I've lied about smoking. I been caught and confessed on a few occasions. 3 or 4 at the most. My girlfriend admits that she has trouble trusting me about these things and rightfully so. Not about HUGE things in our relationship, but about smoking and other petty things. I've told myself not to lie anymore. But even without lying she will doubt when I say "I haven't smoked". I think it is just a time issue, but the trust issue has to play into so many other peoples quits. Either with a quit buddy or a significant other. Who else has broken trust and tried to rebuild it? neek only time will heal the lost trust it may well take as long for her to trust you as it does for you to stop the craves! there is nothing you can do to speed it up, only to say sorry and that you intend to prove yourself to her . :( My Milage: My Quit Date: 10/13/2005 Smoke-Free Days: 124 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 3,110 Amount Saved: 489.8 Life Gained: Days: 12 Hrs: 2 Mins: 36 Seconds: 37

Neek...at one time or another I'm sure we have all lied about our smoking. I know I have. We are all addicts and addicts lie about their addiction. Try not to beat yourself up about it. Just know that lying is unacceptable in any relationship. Once you betray that trust it is really hard to regain it, if not impossible. Get back on your quit and do not lie about it anymore. Don't smoke and then you won't have to lie about it. :) In order for your quit to be successful it has to be what YOU want not your significant other. You can do it. Welcome Back. Hi, Neek. You say your girlfriend has trouble trusting you about "smoking and other petty things." Do I interpret this to mean you have been lying about other things as well? If so, you have issues that go beyond this board. Trust is something that, once lost, is extremely difficult to regain. Continually damaging it is a sure-fire way to never get it back again. I don't think it can stand still, either. It is either mending, or it's becoming worse. If it's becoming worse, it won't stay with just "petty things", but will eventually extend to the "HUGE things in our relationship." As far as lying about smoking, if you don't smoke there's nothing to lie about. Real simple, huh? Neek: Lady's right. Alot of us have lied about out smoking. I have lied many times only because i was ashamed that I could not quit and I promised I would. I was also embarressed that I had told him I would quit over and over again....but I always got caught and has to fess up..... The one thing that made this quit different was that I did it because I wanted to quit...not because he wanted me too..... For years he was always pestering me to quit and I always promised I would but it never worked because I was just doing it for him..... One year ago I got so sick of smoking, I decided I was quiting and thats what I did.....I didnt have to hide or lie about it anymore... Good Luck to Neek....You can do this, if it is really for you!!!! Hang in there!
