Mouth and jaw feels funny

All great advice here, Paula - when you're doing the breathing deeply take it slow and concentrate on just that air-oxygen bringing in the good stuff and breathing out the toxins... let your jaw hang slack and count to 10... I found this to be part of the quit. I do a lot of deep breathing and it really helps me relax. Check out some other good relaxing techniques, it just may help. --THIS, TOO, SHALL PASS-- Jan My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/27/2008 Smoke-Free Days: 35 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 875 Amount Saved: $297.50 Life Gained: Days: 4 Hrs: 1 Mins: 21 Seconds: 58

I said this a while ago, so sorry to you oldbies for repeating myself, but you should buy yourself a biofeedback card - it has a heat-sensetive strip which measures your stress level through the temperature of your skin. What you do is use relaxation exercises to reduce your stress, and, with the information from your biofeedback card, eventually teach your body to relax on command. This isn't a very good explanation, but I can assure you that it works fairly well. Members, the tense feeling that you are experincing could be realted to stress. A great way to alleviate this feeling is to practice relaxation exercises. Exercise could also help lower stress levels as well. Sylvie, Bilingual Health Educator

The tight/tense jaw thing seems to be common - I had that too. And, I know many people who had strange sensations in their mouths - the tongue feeling swollen, etc. Isn't it scary how many biological functions were impacted by our smoking?!?? When you quit each and every body part needs to regenerate and repair all of the damage we did. Scary stuff if you ask me! I have that too in my jaw - called STRESS. I feel it in my shoulders and in my jaw. Everytime you think about it, open your mouth and relax your jaw. It is hard to remember to do, but you can feel how tight your jaw was when you do this. I got a massage the other day and the girl said massaging me was like massaging a cement wall. hmmm.....stressed? Hey guys, just a quick question. For the last few days, my jaw has felt really tense and tight, especially under my chin and my mouth feels strange too but I can't desrcibe it but the jaw thing has me baffled. Has anyone experienced this? I know I'm tense, I can feel that in my shoulders but didn't know it was possible in the jaw! Its kinda funny, I'm doing stretching exercises!
