Smokey, Try and seperate "you" from the "addiction". It isn't you wanting the cigarette...it is a chemical in your brain. The brain will slowly forget. It doesn't forget all at once. The game plan is not to remind it. Replace it with another healthy thing. ps: In the beginning I found watching movies gave me a reprieve! ;) Those sour Altoids work wonders! Has anyone tried them? Smokey - Just imagine feeling this way: Its great ,to not be smoking and smelling like a cigarette, on this beautiful spring morning !!!!! Guess who wrote this? YOU did just a few weeks ago! Not smoking is not a deprivation, it feels great - it's a matter of perspective/how you look at it! smokey, This is a serious addiction. You can control the addiction. When your desire to quit is greater than your desire to smoke, you will quit. Have you read "The Easyway to Quit Smoking" by Allan Carr? I highly recommend it to anyone who really wants to quit. It opended my eyes to the truth of my addiction. I gained knowledge and knowledge replaces fear. I have not looked back. I do not feel deprived in any way. I no longer want to quit, I am quit, forever, period as long as I stay vigilant. Just another addict, Pat My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/28/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 71 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 2,868 Amount Saved: $994 Life Gained: Days: 8 Hrs: 8 Mins: 58 Seconds: 4

Hello smokey, I was reading this discussion, and I cannot add anymore than what has been said. All of us are here supporting each other because smoking is a VERY ADDICTIVE habit. But, it is just that - a habit. You have to stop the triggers, and stop the wishing/wanting to smoke rationalizations. There is no rationality to continue to hurt yourself - and hurting others who care about you including people here on this message board. I am new in my quit too, but realize I can do this - just doing one day at a time. I want the pain and misery to go away and the only way to do that is to stop that irrational action of lighting up and harming my lungs, constricting my oxygen and circulation, burning my fingers, overworking my heart and crying because I see people who I love who cannot understand why I must leave them so I can smoke outside for a brief (Ha ha) five minutes. That is not living. That is enslavement. Be Free! Be Healthy! You can do it! You are here reading and posting and that makes a BIG difference - you know the score and you can beat this. You are strong and not weak, and when you feel the joy then the pain you feel will lessen and truly you'll experience true relief without artificial substances.
