I haven't experienced exactly what you describe but something similiar.
During the first week or two, my heart will pound and I have difficulty breathing, like I need to take a really big breathe. That is why I yawn a lot in the beginning - to get that big breathe. I too have noticed that it goes away when I sit up. I have also noticed that doing some deep breathing helps. I believe it is partially anxiety related, but may also be related to withdrawal of some substance in cigarettes, not necessarily nicotine, because I use the patch. For me it has gotten better as time goes on, but of course, you should check with your physician if it doesn't.
