Day three

17 years ago 0 27 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
Hello Bluesfan I am also on day 3 of giving up and made the most awful mistake at work today, I think through lack of concentration! Normally I would have nipped out into the bushes for a smoke thinking it would make me feel better but since I found this site and discovered all the great and kind people on it I realised that it wouldn't make me feel better at all and would taste horrible and take me back to square one. Instead, I went out and changed my patch to 21mg instead of 14mg and this really seems to have stopped the agitation I was feeling. Allen Carr has recently died unfortunately. He has wrote several books on quiting smoking the easy way. He was a heavy smoker for years and had always tried to stop smoking. Then one day he'd had enough and told his wife he was going to rid the world of smoking. He seemed to have a revelation that he was in a pit of smoking and once he had climbed out of this trap he would be free. So instead of feeling he was missing his cigarettes and was hard done by he had climbed out of the pit of nicotine and was free and to be free was a fantastic feeling. He then set up clinics throughout the UK to help people stop smoking. At these sessions he would counsel the person he was treating make them realise the were in the trap then let them smoke their last cigarette. He cured thousands of people. Allen died of lung cancer possibly due to sitting in on these sessions helping other people. He has his own website if you would like to find out more. I have read his book but never completed I'm afraid. Hope this helps a bit. Don't give up it's day 4 tomorrow and soon it will be a week. Take care Tilly My Milage: My Quit Date: 1/8/2007 Smoke-Free Days: 3 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 38 Amount Saved: $13.5 Life Gained: Days: 0 Hrs: 8 Mins: 8 Seconds: 49

Blues, Good for you for making it past three days and give you wife a hug as well! You guys should set up a reward plan and make this your goal. You are coming up to one week, so take this as an opportunity to do something for yourself or each other. We commend both of you for going through this together and know that we are behind you all the way. Continue to look through the program and use the tips and tools to help you along. All, Doing pretty well. Yesterday was a B#%^&, but got through it. The wife is quitting too and had a rough day yesterday but didn't give in. I think I'll take her out to eat as a reward to us both. What is this Allen Carr system that I heard about in other posts. A buddy of mine quit the same day as we did and is having a really hard time. I want to help him. Welcome, Bluesfan (and wife): The Allen Carr book is called Quit Smoking the Easy Way (I believe the title is correct). It's less a system than an attitude to help those who think they may be ready to quit. I found it extremely useful as it helped me finally, finally understand that I'm a drug addict, addicted to nicotine. Once I learned more and more about addiction, then I was able to get angry about the hold the addiction has had on me for 35 years. I refuse to fall into the easy trap of feeling deprived -- focusing instead on all that is negative about smoking and all that is so wonderful about NOT smoking. I do recommend it -- I got the mini-version which I carry in my purse and refer to often (although not nearly as often as I did early on). Hope that helps. You're doing great. Congratulations! Bluesfan, You and your wife are doing great. Keep strong during the rough moments, and keep gathering information regarding this addiction. It's amazing the amount of healing your body goes through when you quit. I believe Allan Carr wrote a book that many members have read...I have not yet. I'm sure you will get more posts regarding this shortly. Congrats on day 3, stay strong in your quit. kaiti My Milage: My Quit Date: 11/7/2006 Smoke-Free Days: 63 Cigarettes Not Smoked: 1,396 Amount Saved: $346.5 Life Gained: Days: 5 Hrs: 17 Mins: 33 Seconds: 53

I love how you are being so considerate. It's not easy to quit for one, much less two. Thinking in terms of rewards helps. Keep close and good luck today. it's really good that you all help and support each other, just remember that each quit is different....and each quitter is ultimately responsible for only himself. Rewards are GOOD....make PLANS for rewards! it will keep you focused and looking forward. REalize that quitting IS hard.....also realize that it's about YOU being in control....contrary to how you may feel....not smoking reflects that you ARE the one in control....just keep it up....no matter what....don't smoke it's not an option and I promise it gets better!
