I agree 100%. In fact, I believe that each failed attempt is really just a dress-rehearsal for the real thing. But we have to take each attempt seriously and give it our all, because we never know which one will be "IT". We also need to learn from our mis-steps so we don't repeat them over and over. So if you've slipped - review your triggers and adjust your plan and give it another go! I agree it's better to slip. I went through a smoking sessation class and quit for a few days. That was in 2003. Since that time I have sneaked around from my grand kids, made all the familiar excusses to smoke and kicked my own butt ever time I lit one. I Made several half**** attemps to quit. I have two grown daughters who have quit smoking and a grandson who cannot be around smoke at all. I felt alot of guilt about smoking. It also keep me isolated from my family. After you KNOW, you cannot continue to smoke and feel good about yourself. Noone wants to DIE and noone LIKES to smoke. Had I not made the attemps I probably would not be as strong in my quit now. This site is a great help too! Good morning :) Day 6 here and feeling wonderful :) U all are so right. That's what I told myself after I slipped during this quit. I figured what do I have to lose. If I want to still keep trying then I should and I am and I'm glad, lol! Woohoooooooooooo!!!!!! I feel just wonderful this morning. Going to watch my soon to be 4yr old niece take a tap/ballet class today! So happy I'm not a stinky Auntie Re Re anymore! Sparky I've been doing that for 11yrs, asking GOD to keep me sober no matter what and thanking him every night. Of course now it's please keep me sober & smoke free :) Have a wonderful blessed day everyone! Once you have quit and gone back to smoking it is never ever the same. When you are smoking you think about quitting and when you quit you think about smoking. Insame, yes, but this was my process. I tried everything except hanging upside down. But I kept trying. I had someone tell me never give up and that one day I will have my final quit. I am not the smug to reaize that I am one puff away from having to start all over again. I wake up in the morning and my God to remove my desire to smoke and I go to bed at night and thank him for another smoke free day. So yes it is better to have slipped and not have tried at all. Had I not tried I would not have found all of you and I could be dead. I absolutely agree. If you've slipped, it means that you've begun the process of learning how to live smoke-free. The one sure-fire way to avoid ever failing... is to attempt nothing. Failure is a far better spring-board to success than inaction. Better to have slipped than to not have tried at all People who hide their head in the sand and briefly come up for a look every year or two tend to ignore that they smoke. Only when they hear a familiar voice say �are you still smoking� or �when ARE you going to quit� do they become aware and then they sheepishly settled back into the pit they reply, �yea, I know, I should and I will just as soon as I suck this one down�. Hearing that over and over again made me feel about 2 feet tall? Being aware is something trying to change is everything.
