oc03, A good idea is to check with your pharmacist and/or doctor. They will be very beneficial in assisting with side effects and dosages. Hope this helps, Josie ___________________________ The Depression Support Team

Hi oc03, I couldn't answer why it's different. If you've read this thread entirely you'll see that some people don't notice a difference. Others, myself included, have been through hell with the generic. I realize that the name brand is more expensive; but what price mental/emotional health? I now have my doctor write "no substitutions" on my prescriptions. Kate14

Oh I forgot this, her insurance was a 5$ co-pay for name brand until this past month. Now it's either generic for 5 or name brand for 78!!!!

My fiance' is on her 2nd week on generic celexa and has had a headache and no energy since. Does anyone know why the generic sucks so bad. Her GP keeps stating that the generic is identical to the name brand? Is going back to the name brand her best bet in anyone's experience? She also is quite dizzy at some times which is listed as a withdrawl symptom of celexa. Any info is appreciated :)

Hi Julie, I know your question was directed at Becky; however, thought I'd offer my experience. I'd say it was about 2 weeks before I noticed much difference. I had been on the generic for about 3 months; my pharmacy made the switch without my even knowing it. I thought for a while I was "losing it" completely! Good luck. Kate14

TT: Celexa (name brand only!) was the only antidepressant that worked well for my husband. Although remember that everyone's different. My husband's psyc doc says that sometimes individuals have to try 20 different ones before they find an effective one. The hard part is that it takes awhile for an antidepressant to kick in. In the case of Celexa, it took a good 4 weeks, but then he started feeling wonderful. Unfortunately,he switched to the generic and fell to depression again. So, now he's back on the regular and we are once again waiting for it to take effect! Celexa is worth a try for you. Go for it and have patience for it to kick in. Please, just stay away from the generic. Good luck.

Hello, I am new to this site looking for some advice, please. I was giving the drug Celexa and I don't feel right when I take it. It was the 4 drug I have been giving for depression. Now I have been feeling that I don't want the drugs, but others tell me that they help. I am not happy in my situation, and need something but I don't know what. Can anyone tell me that this drug works and how they feel on it. Please. Thank you and have a great day. TT

Hi Becky, -it's nice to hear from you again. I'm SO glad you're back to normal.I am too (most of the time). I really felt that we helped each other through that rough time. (until it was suggested we were hogging the board) lol I spend a lot of time on a new board now, and actually started doing that "opening up" I was telling you about. It's been very therapeutic :)Kate14
