wellbutrin - a personal testament

be careful...it stopped working for me after 6 mths...keep in contact with your doc regulary to discuss your progress and don't ignore set backs. what I thought was just a bump in the road led me into a down ward spiral not even the wellbutrin could help.

Hi members, Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic here. Just a reminder, though, please be sure to consult with your doctor/health care provider regarding any medication concerns. Casey _________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

I have also just started Wellbutrin - adding to Lexapro which I switched to from Effexor. I had been on Prozac for years and i think it just stopped working. Depression runs in my family and I was/am going through a lot anyway - and the depression was overwhelming. I went to a doc who is also a pharmacologist. He put me on Effexor and I was doing well on it - until I missed one dose and holy cow - what if you're stuck somewhere like the guy on the Effexor string?? So he switched me to Lexapro and I had a vvery rocky two weeks.. have lost my libido, had nooo energy - so switched to taking it at night - good idea!... but still no libido (did I mention I'm also going through menopause and he has me on hormones as well?) and feeling flat and gaining weight.. so now he has added Wellbutrin into the mix.. after reading Geekinabox I am wondering if I could go back to Prozac since I read that Lexapro has a similar problem with withdrawal... and also - Wellbutrin is the same as Zyban, so quitting smoking was a great possibility! Great for you!

Wellbutrin only (XL 150 to 300 mg) made me feel much better, but it made me so irritable and verbally agressive (without realizing it) toward others that it was unbearable for those around me. Coupled with Prozac 40 mg, it has been fantastic. In the process, I managed to quit smoking with relatively little effort (though it didn't seem that way at the time) and without trigerring a major depression relapse. Jeff

Hello Power of Now, & Cheers, I started taking Wellbutrin XL a few months ago and now my dose is up to 300 mg, which seems to be the right amount. I don't sleep all day anymore and the energy is great. I can finally accomplish things at home, like cleaning and organizing, which I like to usually do. Organize that is. Before the Wellbutrin, I could barely do anything at all and had no desire to be around my family or friends. Everything aggravated me, and all I really wanted to do was to sleep and watch a some tv. I also take Ativan 0.5 mg TID but usually only take it PRN. When I was on Lexapro, it was horrible every day. I couldn't wait for the night to come to be alone. I feel somewhat better now, just maybe sometimes a little spacey and I have headaches. No weight gain, actually I am losing weight, sleeping less, cleaning more, but the concentration and focus is not there yet. Power of Now, you said that risky behavior was part of the problem for you, like spending sprees, alcohol or self medicate. It seems like this is a theme that everyone with depression should be very careful they don't fall into the trap. I have been spending money gambling in the past week, other risky behavior like being at the bar there, when I am married, drinking alcohol excessively and coming home late. This is not normal behavior for me, but I don't seem to care about the consequences and I don't understand why? Maybe it is part manic behavior who knows. You should feel proud of your accomplishments and give yourself a break now and then. Looks like you know how to get where you need to be. Cheers, I switched taking some of my meds from the evening to the morning and some in the moring from the evening. The morings always seem to be the best time of the day for me. I believe it has more to do with the medication and the time of day that we take it. But I would just ask your doctor next time if he can switch your medicaion to the opposite time you take it now. Also you can purchase a pill box for the week to keep track of your meds. Nice to meet you both online. Have a good day!

I've been on and off Wellbutrin (300mg). Problem is I keep forgetting to take it! (2 BID). I've been on for 3 days steady and yesterday I felt good, today its crap. I also take Ativan for sleep and during the day to curb my anxiety and feelings of dread. Hope it will work for me...I really dont have much hope though.

Linda, It is a good idea to check with your doctor and pharmacist for dosages and side effects. Start your day in a positive way and take a little time for yourself. Hope this helps, Josie ___________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team.

Ms. Puck, I am on Cymbalta 60mg and I just started 1 week ago with Wellbutrin to try to counteract the depression, tiredness and muscle aches that I have all morning especially with I first wake up. But the Wellbutrin hasn't helped. The doctor said give it more time. I also take Ativan, but have tried to cut back during the day thinking that maybe that's doing it (I take .5 mg to sleep). Also, on top of it all, headaches are a problem, so I take Excedrin and the caffenine in that can make be anxious. I don't drink caffenine and never have and most of what I read says not to, but maybe some caffenine would perk me up. I work and its very hard. They are awful! How can I change this pattern of mornings being so bad and things getting better as the day goes on. Evenings are my best time. Any thoughts or suggestions on what might help me in the morning. Help! (By the way, I am doing Session 1 of the program.)

I was on Wellbutrin for over a year and had the same wonderful energy. The problem became an inability to sleep at all and it stopped helping with the depression. So I would be energized and working around the house and crying at the same time. I was sleeping about 4 hours a night, MAX, and going all day with no problem. But it started to get to me. I have stopped Wellbutrin and went on Effexor for 8 days or so and slept about 20 hours a day. Doc took me off that and I've been on Lamictal for about 5 days. I"m sleeping a little less but still dog tired. I miss that energy SO MUCH. I have an appointment with my "med man" on THurs coming up and want to find out if I can go back on the Wellbutrin and find something else to help me sleep at night. I hate all the meds really, but didn't realize how much energy the Wellbutrin was providing until I stopped taking it. Good luck with it!!
