Sample Pleasant Activities

Sounds good, Red. Exercise is a great way to keep your mood up by releasing the 'happy hormones' in your brain.  But of course, it can be hard to get motivated to exercise when you are feeling down... so, doubly good for you for getting out there!

Keep it up!

Christmas is in the rear view mirror and I am back on track and moving in a positive direction again.

Today I went to the mall and did my 60 minutes walk.  I had lunch while I was there and stopped and got my hair cut. I even picked up some fabric at Walmart too.  It turned out to be a good day and I am feeling great again....

This exercise of doing some pleasant and accomplishment type of activities still works for me when I need to get out of a depressive mood....This is something I plan on doing on a regular basis.  Like everyday...

I have been away from the depression center for a while working on some of my issues in the panic center.  Anyway I have been having a bout with my depression again.  I decided it was time to get back to some basics that helped me before with my depression here in the depression center.  So I have decided to start working on incorporating some pleasant and accomplishments activities into my life again.  So here it goes for today.

I let myself rest most of the day today.
I enjoyed cooking some chili today.
I went to a quilt shop and bought myself some cutting dies which I am really looking forward using.
I read some patterns this afternoon and am excited about getting started on a new quilt after I finish up the one I am now working on.  Well thats it for today.  Maybe I will start my walking program again tomorrow...before I get to deep into my sewing projects

Well it's a start to my feeling better about myself which means a lot less depression for me....

According to some experts, depression is caused by a lack of pleasant activities. What are pleasant activities? Pleasant activities are simply things you like to do.

The basic idea is that when people are not depressed, their lives are made up of a wide variety of activities, some pleasant and positive, some unpleasant and negative, and some neutral. According to the theory, in order to feel better you need to have at least some positive activities in your life. Also, people stay depressed because they have at least the usual share of unpleasant activities but not enough pleasant activities. One of the solutions to overcoming depression is to try to schedule more positive and pleasant events in your life; this will help to get the balance between pleasant and unpleasant activities closer to what it is for people who aren’t depressed.

One of your most important jobs in this program is to take the risk of actually testing some of your predictions about what will happen if you try to do something pleasant. Because any experiment can go wrong, we’ll want you to repeat some experiments to see what happens each time. You don’t have to believe that you’ll enjoy the activity; you just have to be willing to try and see what happens. Think of yourself as a scientist who is performing experiments on your moods.

If you’re having some trouble coming up with some activities, here’s a list of some simple activities to get you started:

Going for a walk

Getting dressed up

Meeting someone new

Going to a concert

Having coffee with a friend

Going shopping for myself

Going to the beach

Playing golf

Climbing

Reading sacred books

Going to see a sports event

What do you like to do?
