sofie you could try an exercise program. I once exercised vigourously for about 2 to 3 hours per day and that was probably the most productive period of my life. also i get energy out of focused, organized group siturations. just a couple of thoughts bob

I have had a major depressive disorder that comes and goes since my early teens. I'm now in my mid thirties. I still battle with intense negative thoughts and disconnection. Although I have a strong intimate relationship/partner I feel a lack of continuity in my work/creative life...and I spend way to much time alone for I go into cycles where I feel to yucky to reach out. I feel like my depression has prevented me from cultivating the responsiblity/community that my skill level and talent could engender. I have spent ten years in therapy and recently stopped. I tried zoloft..it made me feel too sped up...(although I got more done in those three weeks then I can remember) but in the end I couldn't tolerate it. Then I got on celexa which seemed to work for a while I have been on it for about two years with some break. (But I gained so much weight and lost my sex drive) I really am scared about medication and can't tolerate lots of side-effects... I get more anxious at the idea of taking medication...and how to get off it. I wish their were other treatements that might help me so I didn't have to rely on the medication...or other ways to cope so that I don't become to sad. Sometimes I think if I had support on a daily basis (don't know what that would be maybe somewhere to go to talk about it..group meeting) it would help. I feel like I'm always re-inventing the wheel. Even though I have accomplished a lot in some ways by outside standards. Any thoughts? sophie

Angie, Thank you for the compliments. This site is to help everyone. You may want to check with a doctor or therapist for the latter request as we are unable to provide medical advice or medications. Please continue to post your support to others. I have been reading some of your kind posts and you are right on the button. Your support is well received :) Josie ___________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team

Excellent! Hats off to all of you who are dedicated to meeting the needs of those that visit this site. I am new here but can already see the benefit of having stumbled across it. I'm really excited about the messenger! Thank you for your hard work! ~ @ngie! ~ P.S. Do you know of an on line diary similar to the depression diary you offer, that would deal with possible bi-polar symptoms? I've read all the "symptoms" the intensity of some of them just doesn't fit with mine...

Dear Members, The Depression Center is thrilled to announce that we will be launching a new, updated version of our program on Thursday May 26th. Our new program will include the following enhancements: * a new version of our Support Group * a new version of our Depression Test(WB-DAT) * a new version of our Depression Diary * a downloadable "CBT Buddies" instant messenger system We are also in the final stages of completing The Depression Program, a 16-Session CBT program designed to help you overcome your depression. The Depression Program will be available to you in Summer, 2005. The launch of this new version means that users of both the Support Group and Depression Diary will have to re-register with the program as your current Username and Passwords will no longer function. For those of you who use the Depression Diary, we encourage you to sign up for the new and enhanced version. You will still be able to access your old data by logging on to this URL: http://archive.depressioncenter.net . You will be able to access your old Depression Diary until June 30, 2004. We look forward to launching our new program and we thank our community for all of your constructive comments over the past two years. If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact the Support Staff. And yes - the Depression Center will continue to be free. Best Regards, ___________________________________ The Depression Center Support Team
