gradual exposure work

Hi Panic1971, As a fellow mom that's been literally "thrown" in the thick of things, I can relate to what you're saying! There have been many times I have used my vehicle as a mini therapy chamber. I would sit and breathe Deeply, and try to think calming thoughts. (I know it's hard when you have work, kid's schedules and all the other things in life like dinner, etc. rolling around up there in our brains.) I find it helpful approaching things logically. This is the ONE thing I do for myself. I need to take care of myself, so I can take care of my family. That helps some. But taking one thing at a time helps too. Remember (you'll here this a lot here) it's all about baby steps. AND not beating yourself up if you have a set-back. <-- That one is IMPORTANT! Instead of looking at the day as a lump of items. I tackle ONE at a time. And sometimes before I know it, I'm through. And if a dish or two doesn't get done? It'll be there tomorrow. I don't like messes so It's been hard for me. But, I'm learning to let go of some of the (lesser important) things and taking care of the things that need immediate attention. Even if it means reading my posts and doing my "homework" at midnight. LOL I hope you can get through the program. I've found it to be a Godsend. Good luck and I wish you the best. Arteest

Panic1971, Welcome to the Panic Center! No, it does not mean you are doomed to be anxiety ridden forever. This program is progressive. Before you enter exposure, you'll learn other skills like how to challenge your thoughts. As you practice these new skills, you become better able to manage anxiety in face of those fears. So keep going through the sessions, take your time and don't hesitate to ask questions. Danielle _____________________ The PC Support Team

This program can still help you in my opinion :)First just cause you have to face them head on during your day doesn't mean you can't schedule some more gradual exposure work about those things during your day too. Also, there is also the thought challenging aspect of the program which helps a lot! I thelps me a ton! So as you are facing head on what scares you, you can challenge your thoughts and that would help you a lot too. There are also breathing exercises you learn later on! This program is really full of really great tools and tips anf whatever help you need more you can usually get great advice on the forums. So i encourage you to stick through the program, to follow it and do the homework and i bet that you get something out of it for sure :) Anyway, that is just my opinion but i am sure the moderators can help you out with this question when they log on. Hope this helps a bit :) -Diva

Hi everyone. I have had panic attacks and constant anxiety for well over 6 years now. I am going through a bad time again at the moment, where I am not coping as well as I have been. Everything seems to be getting on top of me again. I have just registered for the 12 week course and have just read the 1st session. It states that the only way to overcome panic and agoraphobia is to learn how to gradually expose yourself to the situations that cause you fear. I have fears in lots of places, but dont have a choice on the gradual exposure. I have to do these things head-on. I get panicky at work, taking kids to school, driving, shopping etc, etc etc. Does this mean I will never get better as I cannot do these things on a gradual basis? I am so desperate to feel panic free. Please advise. Thanks for listening Ann :)
