scary heartbeats

Lucy, I get these "scary hearbeats" all the time!! I just went through a series of tests on my heart, all which came back fine. I get pains and palpitations and haven't even been exercising cause I was so convinced something was wrong with my heart. I try to go for walks but can basically only walk up and down the same street due to my agoraphobia. Even then I always bring my cell! Just in case... I looked up palpitations on the internet (something I'm NOT supposed to do) and mostly it said that palpitations are quite normal and benign in most people. I just try to ignore them now since I've had all the tests done. But then there's that ever-lingering doubt...maybe they've missed something...! No- anyways, I think these crazy heart feelings are just a part of anxiety since we all seem to have them. Take care, Sarah

Lucy, This is a good thing! You understood that an attack was coming on and you handled the situation properly. Please do not feel embarrased! We all have been in your shoes! Next time you go for a walk maybe have someone go with you or continue to bring your cell phone. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us and please continue to post. Take care, Melanie

Hi Lucy, Yeh I've done things like that before. That's great that you asked that lady for help. :) I always think having a panic attack in public is better than having one on your own for that very reason. You can ask a friendly face to assist you if you need. You've got nothing to be embarrassed about. You coped with the situation really really well I think! A similar thing happened to me in the supermarket a couple of months back. It seemed to come out of the blue on this occasion too. All I was doing was paying for the shopping, then my heart started racing and I felt a bit faint. The guy behind the counter looked a bit freaked out. I didn't think my symptoms were showing but I guess they must have been. Anyway in noticing his reaction to my bad turn I started to see the funny side and snapped out of it pretty fast. Poor bloke must have thought I was nuts, haha. I've also seen people having panic attacks on planes. I don't have a fear of flying myself. But I did have an attack on a plane once, again it was out of the blue. I told the flight attendant I was having a panic attack, they're always really helpful. Just wanted to reassure you that you're not alone in situations like this. :)

Hi Lucy, Yes, yes and yes. I get the "skipped" heartbeats too, about once or twice a month. Sometimes it's just one or 2 in a 5 minute time period. It sort of makes me gasp and I feel it in my chest. Then I take my pulse. (I do a lot of that) I had the doctors tell me a few things, but what I finally did was have a halter for 24 hours, and out of 61,000 beats, I had 13 benign "skipped" beats, which really aren't skipped. It's been a few years. Anyway, the bottom line is, I've been having this "heart attack" since I'm 11 and every single test I've had whenever I have a "strange" heartbeat comes up with absolutely nothing or nothing unusual. It seems we're just more aware of our bodies than others and most skipped beats are normal. Repeating our motto: You're not alone! Take care, and I hope everyone had a Happy Turkey Day! I'll have to find the board for mindless chatter, cause I had something really cute happen to me and I don't have anyone to tell. :(

Something horrible just happened to me. I was going for my evening walk, which I've only been able to do for a couple of months as I used to be agoraphobic. Just as I was turning a corner, my heart gave a huge beat and started skipping erratically, missing lots of beats. I wasn't anxious at all before it happened - it came out of the blue. I sat down on the side of the road and called my boyfriend on my mobile phone. While I was waiting for him to come, feeling terrified of my heartbeat, I asked a woman who was passing to look out for him as I hadn't been able to explain where I was very well. Eventually he came and got me, and by then my heartbeat had returned to normal. I'm so embarrassed and scared. That was horrible. I feel like I'm the only person in the world things like that happen to. I don't know anyone else who has problems like this.
