I don't have the fear of staying alone as discussed here, but I agree with the person who states, people who suffer panic and anxiety are people who strive to be perfectionists. I note that with myself. I hate it if my hair is not perfect, etc. I also note that I am a person who hates confrontations and have a hard time saying no to anyone. I was always worried what other people thought of me. I am finally, in my older years, getting better at that. In the long run, it doesn't matter what other people think. It only makes you crazy.

This is what anxiety is all about, the fear of losing control. People who suffer from this are perfectionists who like to have control over their own lives and health etc. So it is normal that you would feel the need to control your treatment. We need to learn how to give up some control over some things are being too much for us. However, your health and your body are things you need to retain control over. And you have every right to question your treatment and asses whether it is the right thing for you or not.

Hi Chantal, welcome. I completely understand what you're talking about. I'm really picky about who I trust and it sometimes backfires on me also. However I think it's a really good thing not being very trusting. Especially with medical concerns...and yeh before you ask I'm a control freak aswell! I think a lot of doctors aren't used to being confronted when someone questions their method. Rather slack and unprofessional of them if ya ask me. To me a doctors job is to not only provide a medical service but be sympathetic and understanding to the patients situation. I went to loads and loads of GPs until I found one I'm happy with. I understand the paranoia and anxiety creeping in and clouding your judgment over a situation or doctor too. Just remember they're human too and have bad days like the rest of us. But if theres a pattern of bad practice or just an instananious "i don't like this person's attitude" I wouldn't feel too bad about seeking out another doctor. Something I do to help myself see through the anxiety and get to the truth of the matter is this. I ask myself: "What are the motives behind what this person is doing/saying?" I apply that question to everyone, not just doctors. Helps me see through the anxiety (cause heavens knows it clouds judgment!) and get to the truth of any matter. Also helps me see why I'm feeling on edge about whatever it may be. This site is wonderful. I can safely assure you I've never felt the need to ask that question here. Hope this helps a bit. Take care. :)

Chantal, We hope that you can express you questions and concerns on this site! Susanne and myself are healthcare professionals on the site, but only give advice when needed. We hope this is what you are looking for and that you now can take the proper steps in understanding your anxiety. Take care, Melanie

I have a really hard time taking direction from people . I become very anxiouse when I think someone is trying to take over my life. I have never been a person who takes a back seat to my well being but sometimes I have to get help. Whne this happens I am already very upset with myself that i don't have all the answers and that i am not perfect. But I also become very turned off and at times very confrontational with service providers who treat me like I am either a "nut case" or who can't understand my boundries and decide they will try to manipulate me into allowing them to take over my process. This is a huge issue for me because it directly effects my self esteem and I often blame myself when I don't get along with someone who is being payed to help me. I do not trust many doctors and medications . I guess I have to say I am controlling but I also know it's apart of the anxiety as well as long history with proffesionals I do not feel are capable of dealing with conflict.I know i have to take resposibilty for my actions but become confused at the part around the boundries , they seem to have all the boundries but when I exercise my boundrise it becomes a problem for councillors and doctors. The good doctors know to reasure me then we can discuss not the other way around.
