Depersonalization Disorder

Hi I too suffered with these terrible symptoms and was told I had a panic disorder as well as depression. The depression and anxiety were treated with medication and cbt therapy. You will not stay that way forever, it will go away. No matter how I felt, I continued on with my daily routine and without realizing it, the symptoms went away. Exercize is also extremley helpful in reducing these symptoms as well as reading and crossword puzzles. Take a little time everyday doing something you enjoy!!

I just posted a message "Feel like I'm losing it" I am having a very similar experience. I feel spacey most of the day and working is making it worse or it seems as though it is. I am on a baby dose of paxil 2.5 every time I try to go up my anxiety goes through the roof, I may bite the bullet and try it one more time. I don't know the answer to your question, but I can relate so much to what you are experiencing. I would like to know the answer myself. This has been going on for weeks now. Are you on any medication for your anxiety? It could just be from the stress, I like you have been under an great deal of stress and now it seems that I can't handle or deal with anything that comes may way. I just want to lock myself in my house and never come out; it's so hard functioning when I feel so out of sorts. I hope someone can answer your question, I just wanted to say that I am to going through this. Take Care, Becky

Hi Jane, This will make an interesting topic for discussion here. Fellow members will be responding soon. A simple definition of this disorder has to do with feeling "detached" from oneself. You may want to research the definition further but please consider consulting with your health care provider to see if this is what you are experiencing. They know you best and will be able to answer your questions more appropriately and put your mind at ease so that you can work on overcoming your feelings of panic and anxiety. Take comfort in your psychiatrists advice that anxiety can be treated. If you have not already done so, please take the time to roam through the site and check out our online program. You may find the exercises helpful in gaining knowledge and control over your symptoms. Casey ______________________________________ The Panic Center Support Team

What is this? I've read about it and fear I suffer from it. I feel as though I am 'blank', or have lost my 'self'. Everyday I seem to move on instinct only, detached from emotion and even my train of thought. This all began some three months ago, after a period of severe stress, and it has only gotten worse as time went on. My psychiatrist says this is a side effect of extreme anxiety and panic disorder, and that treatment of anxiety will eliminate these horrific 'blank' feelings. Is it medically possible to lose your sense of self for good, as per the definition of the disorder? I'd appreciate an answer.
