Hi H:  I think this site can be most helpful.  It will point you in the right direction.  It will teach you not only coping techniques but also the reasons why this may be happening to you and what you can do about it.  I wouldn't hesitate to start the program right away.
As for depression, it often goes hand in hand with anxiety.  You can click on "More Help" above and it has a drop menu which will show depression site which may be of help to you.
Hope you have a look at both sites and whatever you decide, we are here to support you and cheer you on.

Hello Harvey and welcome.  I too used to worry about stroke and heart attack.  I am much better now with the help of CBT.  I especially like the relaxation exercises and the visualization.  Whenever I feel myself more anxious, I go right back to basics and do these exercises faithfully every day.  The box breathing, deep breathing, also help a lot.  I don't know if you are familiar with these exercises or not.  What I can say about them is that it takes practice.  When I first did them I felt frustrated because I felt they weren't helping or I wasn't doing them correctly.  I kept at it for three months, every day, morning and evening (only takes a few minutes).  Now my body responds very quickly.  Hope you try it and don't give up.  Find a quiet place for just a few minutes, you can lie down, or sit.  I chose a chair in the living room which I used each time I did the exercises.  It was funny, each time I sat there, a lovely feeling of relaxation would come over me.  My body knew it was a "safe" place, a place to relax.
Hope this can be helpful to you,
Sunny

Harvey,

Thank you for sharing your story  and posting with us. There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you.  We are all a group of individuals who support each other.

If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests.  These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. The purpose of these tests is to prepare you with information that you can present to your physician. When you're finished the test, you can either print your Final Report or email it directly to your doctor.

We also have developed a Panic Program.  This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.

These tests may or may not be for you but they are "free".  If you have any question or concerns with our “TOOLS”, you can contact us at support@paniccenter.net.  We are the Support Specialist for The Panic Center and are open to any questions or concerns you may have.
Posting within the site is also an amazing way to gain insight and supportive from members that do know what you are going through. Good for you for coming here for support and also working with your doctor.

Please continue to strive forward and lean on us for support.
