Life´s challenges

11 years ago 0 6252 logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo logo 0
My challenge will not be taking care of the home and pets while she is gone but to not do something stupid while she is gone. Like falling on the slippery ground or sticking some part of my body in a moving tool. I will probably worry more about this than have it actually happen. I'll have to remember to keep my cell phone charged and with me. This does limit my projects, but I'm sure I can do something not too dangerous till she gets back. It seems since my disability has progressed over the years this has become more of a concern.
I will survive as usual besides I am on a first name basis at the Hospital.

Hi all:  Well, here I am with another challenge.  I am going back to Edmonton to care for the grandchildren as my son is flying out to be with his Dad who is in hospital (my first husband).  His Dad is very ill, pneumonia and heart problems and they aren't sure he is going to make it.  Other complications too.  Understandably, my son wants to be there.  I am worried too and concerned.  I will be staying for a wk.  That means I had to postpone my eye appts. but it is o.k. I got new appts. for end of Feb. and that should be alright.  If I get pain, I take Tylenol which is working fine.  Just have to try and not strain the eyes which doesn't help.  When I get there I plan on pampering myself.  While the children are in school I can rest, take a nap, whatever I wish.  They are such good kids, not much to worry about anyway.  I look forward to cooking for them, making snacks especially their favourite treats!  That'll be my reward.

There's so much going on in this thread I got overwhelmed halfway through! haha

Red, I know what you mean. We can only cope with so many bumps in the road before it gets too much. This definitely contributed to the increase of my anxiety again :(

Davit, I'm dealing with the same thing at the opposite end of the scale! There's a massive heat wave here at the moment, so doing anything without melting is almost impossible. There's also huge bushfires across Tasmania, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland has the worst at the moment, which is where I live. The haze and humidity is quite terrible, it's hard to breathe. While you're trying to get everything done before the snow, we have to run around like mad before our afternoon thunderstorms. Don't put too much pressure on yourself though Davit. If you have to leave some things until the spring that's okay too :) And don't do too much damage to yourself, and the apple trees ;)

Sunny, my Mum has been having troubles with her eyes too. We have to see an opthalmologist in Brisbane, which is about an hour and a half away. We're so lucky here in Australia though, we have public hospitals and pharmaceutical health benefits so we can get a lot of health service free of charge. Mum had an overactive thyroid and to treat that, she had radioactive iodide 5 years ago. Unfortunately, she suffered a rare side affect of that which caused her eyes to bulge, causing a lot of pressure and double vision. At the end of 2011, she needed to have both her eye sockets broken and remoulded so her eyes could fit into their sockets again. And last year she had another surgery to straighten her right eye and although she has more surgeries to come, the improvement so far has been astounding!

That's your positive Sunny, there is always hope! As for the pharmacy, that's so frustrating. Do you have a script and everything? They should be able to read that.

Thanks for the support V.  Actually I was going to go alone but Davit reminded me I would be driving home in the dark on mountain roads which he knows better than I do and if I did have tests done my eyes wouldn't be in any great shape to drive especially at night - he was so right.  Thank you Davit!

Wish I knew the reputable ones....I've only heard to be very cautious with them.  Luckily most of my meds. for glaucoma would be paid by my ins. so not too worried about cost.  Just aggravating to check and double check and make sure everything is understood at the pharmacy here in the closest town.  I went online to check out the gov't  ins.plan for this and other meds. because the pharmacy just wasn't giving me answers.  I figured it out on my own in the long run.  This to me, is not good service and they are the pharmacy in the hospital!

Hi sunny123,

It's so very true about things happening in threes...or at least when it rains it pours(!)  I'm glad to hear you did not have to go to your appointments alone.  I imagine that would induce even more anxiety.
Listening to some relaxation tapes is a great way to calm your mind and stay grounded.
These unexpected events force us to slow down, so take it easy and definitely take advantage of pampering yourself.  Thinking of you and hope that you receive the treatment you need.

There are reputable online pharmacies now, and I can't post the name.  I've got to clean up all this stuff I've dropped on the floor and find the darn thing, and check it out.  There's money to be saved, and the customer care is great, but I've dropped the contacts on the floor already, and between arthritus and my sore muscles around new exercises for back stabalizing, I'm being a woss about cleaning up....it's too nice outside to be doing this, but it's time...

HI Hugs:  I know they are expensive.  I had to buy lubricating drops when I had the episode of keratitis caused by using the other while waiting for the laser and of course they had to be preservative free.  They came in individual vials, so more cost for sure.  That'll probably be the same idea for the pressure drops.

I'm also upset because the pharmacy here has three times made mistakes with my prescriptions and the last two have cost me!  I tried to get out of it, the most they will do is waive their dispensing fee.  I want to go to another pharmacy but it is almost an hour away.  Oh gosh, just another stress for now.

And another - it comes in threes - my ex. is very ill with pneumonia and heart problems right now in hospital.  He is very weak and won't eat.  My son who lives in Edmonton, wants to go for a week's stay starting next wk.  He needs me to take care of the children while he is away but I have two apts. at the hospital next wk.  I'm thinking I can call and see if I am at any risk if I wait a couple more weeks and see if I can travel.  That's the best I could do I think.  ugh.  Seems everything happens at once sometimes.

So, need to remain relaxed and not worry too much, be concerned but not obsessively and lose sleep which I really need right now.  My eyes are hurting, like a migraine in the eyes but it could be all the pushing and prodding of yesterday.  and I don't want my bp to go crazy again.

Back to basics!  Will do relaxation tape again for awhile.  Though I can do these on my own, I find when stress hits all my buttons, a calm soothing voice really helps me.  Time for some pampering.

HI.

I've got a new hobby, and this one is free. I hobble around with my cane looking like a vagrant and watch people while I wait for Sunny. PG isn't that big of a city but people sure are nervous. Bet half of them have MACE in their pockets incase some one like me is dangerous. What is our world coming to. Two and a half hours is enough time to make a lot of people nervous. I'll have to learn to talk to myself and drool. Just kidding. I can do Tardif Discanesia but that would be going too far. It is such a shame that people fear what they don't understand, as if they can catch it. When I was in a wheel chair in the hospital people yelled at me like I was deaf and treated me like a four year old. Funny hey. Don't grow old unless you have a sense of humour.

Hi Sunny,
Those non-preservative drops are expensive.  Health is such a production, that I'm starting to wonder about medical practioners and their "competing interests".

Our responses are so important to the outside world, and whether it's negative or positive.  If we were looking with the perspective of the astronauts, "it is what it is", and not positive nor negative.

BTW, your avatar reminds me of a man who's gun license was suspended for making percieved threats regarding gun control.  After watching his youtube video of 12 minutes, he ended with a joke asking if anybody knew about the 3 legged dog who wandered into a bar, and asked "who shot his paw?".

If someone of that disposition can have a moment of  humour following a claim to being mentally competent, I think we're having a bad moment in our normal day when we are inconvenienced, compared to someone percieved as a national threat to public safety in Tennessee in the largest superpower in the world.

Well here we go again.  Had my first appt. with new opthamologist yesterday.  Seems my pressures are sky high again - guess the last laser did not work well as it should last at least 5 yrs.  I was having more pain in my eyes lately.  And also may have problems with my retinas so need more tests at the hospital next wk. and I have a hole in one eye (?). If there are problems will have laser for them this summer.  It seems odd as when I left Ontario I had had photo imaging of retinas twice before leaving and they showed very healthy.  Can't take drops for glaucoma because I am sensitive/allergic to preservatives though there are some without.  May have to try those.  Don't know yet.  As I first wrote, here we go again.
How does one change this negative to a positive?  Well, glad I'm in Canada and not a third world country.  I will get the help I need.  Just need some patience and courage to get through this round of treatment.  One day at a time!  I did have plans for the summer so I am disappointed if I have to sit with my eyes closed for a while depending on the treatment.
The drive there and back is 2.5 hrs. through mountains and dangerous with wildlife and of course, slippery conditions in the winter.  Thank goodness Davit came with me so he could drive back as I couldn't see anything after 4 different drops yesterday and two tests and 2.5 hours in the office.
So, I sure do understand how ill health, that sort of thing, makes a person anxious.  As I wrote above, one day at a time.

Sunny
