hi Red:  Yes it would be lovely to have a get together and share some Christmas spirit and joy.

Merry Christmas to all my forum friends.

May you have peace and joy not only at Christmas but feel it and experience it all through the year.

I like what Ashley wrote this morning; take a moment and breathe, look around and just be for awhile.  Sit and look out the window, see the beauty of nature, think of family and friends and count your blessings.  I always feel more centred, more grounded after doing this.

We thought we would put up a picture of some of the baking. Today sunny made Stollen. The last of the baking except for pies. The large round cookies and the Steamed pudding are mine. The rest are hers. I don't remember the names of all of them. The ginger bread and short bread are obvious. She will have to name the others. She made the tarts, mince meat and butter tarts. I made the mince meat out of green tomatoes and apples and stuff. Home made wine in the background. We still have a few other things we may or may not make before Christmas. While waiting for the breads to rise we strung pop corn and cranberries to hang in a tree for the birds. Also made a banana impossible pie but that isn't for the holiday, it was just for dessert.

My favourite recipe is for Cherry Cream Cheese Balls.

I don't have a written one but it is something like this: cream cheese (of course), sugar, chopped maraschino cherries. Mix. And roll into balls. Roll in crushed graham crackers. Thats it.

Very good for dieters too as you can make light ones and freeze them. :D

Use it or lose it.
Actually some days like yesterday I had to drop one more stop on my list as it was all I could do to to get in the house and sit for a while. We are doing that stop today.
I do have help too which is very much appreciated even though I get tired and forget to tell her.
Just do what you can each day and although it is hard some days I try to be happy with that.
What you don't see is I have a wheeled walker I can sit on in my kitchen so I can sit often.
There is a way around just about everything even stress, but some days it is hard.
Grin and bare it.

Forgot to mention.
I'm going to make the Biscotti when we come back from the store.

I make a steamed suet pudding once a year for Christmas. I was going to put the recipe here but it doesn't work well with substitutes. Real suet is hard to come by unless you live in a farming community. Butter can be substituted but it needs to be chilled and put through a meat grinder to get the right texture. It takes two cups also. Store bought suet is not the same thing.
The pudding has currants, raisins, dates and dried apples in it. Very rich and very good too.
also it has to be steamed for three hours. A lot of work.

Here is my traditional oatmeal date cookie instead.

2 cups of large oats chopped fine in a blender one cup at a time.
2 cups (or more) flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
pinch of salt. (as much as you like) or none.

Cream 3/4 cup butter with 1/3 cup of dark brown sugar.
Add one large egg and 1/2 cup of molasses.

Combine and mix as for roll cookies. chill if necessary or add more flour.
Roll out 1/4 inch thick. Cut with tuna can. Cut hole in the ones for the top.
don't over cook. Fill with cooked dates. Glaze and put a cherry in the hole in top.

350 for around ten minutes.

Davit.
