Sample Pleasant Activities

Hi.

I have tried not to feel guilty for being different to varying degrees. It doesn't bother me in the least that I don't like sports events but it does that I have no interest in concerts. (same core belief, different version) Some of the things on the list are too difficult for me to do. (that is okay)
Some because I feel the time could be better used. (not okay) (another core belief)
No one comes here on Halloween but in town I let someone else hand out the candy. I felt uncomfortable and don't know why.

At 60 I've done most everything I have an interest in so I wouldn't likely have to try more than one time. There are a few left but health limits them.

I understand about the balance. This becomes a real problem when my day is consumed with just getting through it. This leaves me with one option, since leaving unpleasant things to do pleasant doesn't work. Modification. Washing dishes isn't unpleasant if it means a clean counter and room to cook. Laundry does itself so that leaves floor washing to balance.
What do you do if you are just too tired to go do something that is going to be work for pleasure. Do you settle for less. I do, I have to.

The only two that I don't love, Davit are sporting events and dressing up.  Some say that it doesn't take much to make me feel guilty about things but I don't mind that I don't enjoy those activities.  Maybe I feel a little guilty for not being super-enthusiastic about Halloween.  Perhaps when the "big day" arrives, I will change my opionion.  How about you Davit?

This is interesting since we are all different. Let me throw a wrench into the work.

How many of the things on Ashley's list do you find unpleasant and why and here is an even bigger question? Do you feel guilty for feeling such since It has been suggested that these are pleasant activities?

Eight or more of these things are not on my pleasant things list, probably for reasons you would not think. Or you might at that.

According to some experts, depression is caused by a lack of pleasant activities. What are pleasant activities? Pleasant activities are simply things you like to do.

The basic idea is that when people are not depressed, their lives are made up of a wide variety of activities, some pleasant and positive, some unpleasant and negative, and some neutral. According to the theory, in order to feel better you need to have at least some positive activities in your life. Also, people stay depressed because they have at least the usual share of unpleasant activities but not enough pleasant activities. One of the solutions to overcoming depression is to try to schedule more positive and pleasant events in your life; this will help to get the balance between pleasant and unpleasant activities closer to what it is for people who aren’t depressed.

One of your most important jobs in this program is to take the risk of actually testing some of your predictions about what will happen if you try to do something pleasant. Because any experiment can go wrong, we’ll want you to repeat some experiments to see what happens each time. You don’t have to believe that you’ll enjoy the activity; you just have to be willing to try and see what happens. Think of yourself as a scientist who is performing experiments on your moods.

If you’re having some trouble coming up with some activities, here’s a list of some simple activities to get you started:

Going for a walk
Getting dressed up
Meeting someone new
Going to a concert
Having coffee with a friend
Going shopping for myself
Going to the beach
Playing golf
Climbing
Reading sacred books
Going to see a sports event
