Your Top 3- If money were not an issue

Vicarious traumatization is a problem caregivers face more than people that just give care but it can have a profound effect on a persons mood and feelings. It can make a person sick and it does sneak up. Professional care givers have the choice of leaving it at work. Something home care persons don't always have a choice in. Relaxation and letting go so one can care for themselves also is important. I get it because I have friends that have major mental problems we share. What to do, they are still friends.

Thanks Davit. I will re-do the program and repeat. Repetition is so necessary. :)

Samantha,
I find that I can't puruse altruism, education or even my health issues with increasing caregiving stresses.

It is interesting to see that with everyone's responses we can see some common values amongst members:

Security
Family
Education
Altruism
Freedom
Health

All great values to have.  How can you honour these values today and with the resources you currently have?

I have not had a day when I could not get up and have toast if I want to in a while. Probably years. In fact I can have coffee with it. It was not always so. There were times in the Hospital (general) when I had to put my breakfast on a napkin so they could have my tray back. Not so in the psych ward. There I looked forward to breakfast. It might be because I was with a group of people in a similar situation. I made friends there, and looked forward to having meals with them. I still have friends from there. We are normal people who just have one foot off the path.
You can get to the point where you can do anything you want to do. It takes time. Right now your mind is stuck on these anxious thoughts. It will take time to cover them up with ones you want. This is the CBT part. CBT is the theory that we are controlled by our thoughts not our surroundings. The belief is that our surroundings control our thoughts as triggers and previous thoughts control our response. So if this is true then what we have is conditioning towards the negative to the point where we have lost the positive. Now since we can not lose the positive we started out with it must be just buried with all this negative conditioning. Cognitive behaviour therapy, opens up the paths to these positive thoughts and buries the negative ones so that we can eat toast with out having anxious thoughts interfere.

This is what is meant by changing negative to positive. Not literally as it sounds but a combination of many things that allow us to get back on the positive track and our trailing foot off the negative one. There are many forms of CBT depending on what condition the person suffers. This is a panic site so the CBT is geared toward anxiety and panic. and the causes of it, not just one cause as is the case with some CBT. So it matters not, what the reason for your anxiety, the CBT here can fix it. But although it can fix it there will always be the possibility of going back. With this in mind it explains why for most with every success comes a looking back that brings back the negative. It isn't gone, each success just buries it more so we get more freedom. In other words conditioning toward the positive. (happy, content, accepting, loving, kind, the list goes on.) This can take a long time if one tends to look at everything with negative tinted glasses. It can happen to the best even if they are trying their best. But with repitition it gets to the pont one does not look for the negative in every situation. At this point you could say the conditioning is complete. CBT has worked.

That is true. I have no idea what would happen with my friends etc. jealousy stinks. I would give anything to not feel full of anxiety each morning. To just wake up and eat toast. That would be nice.

Careful what you wish for. You could win just enough to make life worse. Money is seldom the answer even though it is a necessity. You really can not buy happiness. Happiness comes from within. We all have what it takes, we just can't always see it. Only the truly mentally ill have trouble with this and for them there is medication to get them back on track.

I would quit my job. I would send my husband off to university. I would help out my family members.

Basically I have so much stress when it comes to work and being judged. I have no idea how to get over this. My future seems bleak. I do wish I could win a lottery.

Take care.

I've been sitting here trying to think about this question.  This is very complicated.  For me it's all tied in with the saying "teach a man to fish and he won't starve",  something like that, you know, rather than giving just money.

Education - seems to me that's really important.  How could we reach everyone?  How could it be taught to take only what you need.  Greed sometimes runs the world.  Poor Mother Earth and what we've done to her in the name of progress.

I really don't know.  I suppose I just want to be able to have a comfortable life like most people.  Not having to worry about bills sure would help.  And a few luxuries add enjoyment and pleasure.

So in answer, if money were no object - no financial worries stressing me out, be able to get the best doctors in the world to help myself and loved ones, allow me to live where I want comfortably and enjoy the things I would like to do.
