3rd Therapy Session - My Experience

E,
There are a number of things that one discovers in a garden, like the serenading of the birds.  Just remember, people actually record birds and sell the recordings for profit!  I avoided gardening since it seemed to be associated with being "old", but now do it since it gives so much joy to my parent.  It also changes my focus.

Here's a better description, associated with one thing you like- the beach.

A day so happy.
Fog lifted early, I walked in the garden,
Humingbirds were stopping over
               honeysuckle flowers.
There was no thing on earth I wanted to possess.
I knew no one worth envying him.
Whatever evil I had suffered, I forgot.
To think that once I was the same man
                  did not embarass me.
In my body I felt no pain.
When straightening up, I saw the blue sea and sails.

Try gardening if you want to learn how to deal with stress. If the soil is fertile it grows weeds.
You work hard to put in seeds and the weeds almost beat the seeds up. So you weed but there are so many and it seems hopeless. But if you like to garden you weed anyway. At first it seems like a waste of time but where you weed looks so nice and the plants do so well. The first lettuce and radishes give you a sense of accomplishment but still there is so much to do and more weeds come up where you have been. You have to leave these and get on with it while you can still tell what is what. But after the second pass and as more stuff matures so you can use it it all becomes worth while. Third pass is pleasure because there is only the odd weed to pull and so much that is usable now. Time to relax and enjoy the fruit of your labour.
Of course you could give up and spray it right at the beginning but look at all the experience you would miss and the end just is not the same.

If I were able to relax I could do so many things in my life, because I would know how to deal with problems and stressful situations that are inevitable and present in my life.

Great Eleveno,

And just to take it one step forward.  If you were be able to achieve all those things, what would the possibilities be?

You are right when you said that should is not very motivating. And it is not specific. If I think in what my life would look like if I were able to relax I am getting more specific.

I will be more relaxed if I keep some limits on myself, using for example time management skills. I would do my work with a more relaxed attitude and do not get upset about its difficulties and problems, solving what is within reasonable, and do not try to do more than I can give. If a were more relaxed person I would enjoy doing other activities (besides work) and developing relationships with other people.

I have mentioned it before but thought I would again. I am one of those that get worse on antidepressants so use a Tricyclic mood stabalizer when I have to. (not often) Anti psychotics make me too dizzy to drive so I quit using them. (years ago) I have mood swings but am not Bipolar. I'm just sensitive to my suroundings. Mood swings come mostly when I'm tired which comes mostly after having a good day or days.

Hi Eleveno,

Definitely great observations.  I did notice though that it in your last paragraph you are coming place of "should". I should lead a more balanced life.  Coming from a place of should isn't very motivating so consider this:

How would your life be different if your life was more balanced and you were able to relax?
How would you be different?

E,
Not wanting to make you more scrupulous, we "could" monitor our language so choices replace harsh directives from our internal voices.  An example is how you've stated you "should" and could replace that with "could".  It's just less cumulative pressure, allowing more free energy for living, loving and learning

Excellent observations Eleveno!  Being aware and keeping a balance are absolutely key to managing our lives in a healthy way.  Keep up the good work!  Good luck with getting your meds straightened out... be patient with that... it does take a lot of trial and error before finding the right combination for you.
