Ashley,
The toolbox has that technique under the auxillary session under #10.   I've been doing it for too many years, I'm embarassed to admit.

Ashley,
What about learning progressive relaxation from the auxillary module?  This technique can teach to take the edge off of intense feelings on cue, as you get better.  There's no panacea.
Josie, what do you think?

Davit,

I'm only taking 10mg of Propranolol once a day usually, but these attacks started before I was prescribed that.

It does seem like that attacks are further apart than they were before, and I'm generally enjoying my time in between. It's just when one happens now I get shaken up and I feel like I lost a little progress.

The unexpected ones that seem to come out of nowhere are very difficult for me. I have had a few that I knew I was in a stessful situation and the attack wasn't altogether unexpected. But when I feel fine and then I get these feelings it's very shocking for me.

I will try your anger suggestion to replace the fear next time this happens; I know that the fear makes it worse.

Thanks,
Ashley

Ashley.

Are you taking medication for any other problem, because what happened there, is what happens with some medication as a side effect. I get exactly the same thing from some of my meds. Just want to rule that out. If you are not taking anything that would cause this then you can go to scenario B which is more common and that is that it was just a little slip of confidence and I won't lie to you, there will be more but farther apart. This is just part of the normal adjusting to the program. Give it a little time, it will get better. ( I sound like a doctor here, take two aspirins and see me again tomorrow.)

Ashley this is going to seem silly but don't get scared get mad. See anger is a positive reaction to fight or flight the panic cycle but scared is negative and will keep it going. Try telling your self "I'm mad, I don't want to do this anymore, it is just panic and a pain in the butt" Anger is something the fight or flight is conditioned to understand and it will subside.

And yes I know all about scared so if it is too tough, I understand. Stay with us, keep trying it will happen. I hope this therapist is right. They really can make a difference.

Here for you,
Davit

Ashepp,..
I meant we as human beings versus designed programs...didn't mean to be forward...

  Ashepp,

I admired the fact that you only lost some of your hope and optimism, and only for a few seconds. In your own words, you think the program is helping, and you’re toughing it out, while remaining optimistic about the next person to work with.

The fact that you ended  your post, stating you’re only venting is a healthy sign, along with the favourable medical test results, and that could help break cycle we get drawn into, of perpetuating uneasiness of our perceived symptoms when they are less than the results state they are.

Like good software designed products, you sound like you’re “robust” and dealing with a minor “glitch”...we have a lot more going for us than software though, shown by your vulnerable side with the two birds building a nest.

Last week was pretty good for me; my average anxiety and depression went down a bit and my panic attacks seemed to be fewer and further between.

But today I was just sitting at my desk working when my heart pounded and I got a hot flash. I didn't even feel stressed or anxious and whenever this happens I get scared again and lose some of my hope and optimism. It only lasts for a few seconds but I really feel like there's something wrong with me, these things never used to happen to me. Although my medical tests have all been coming back fine, it's just hard to believe that these spells are caused by anxiety.

I do think the program is helping me with my anxiety and I start to feel a lot better when I have a few days with no panic but then this happens and I'm scared again. I know I shouldn't be, but it's tough.

My first therapist visit didn't work out but I have an appointment with a different one (that I'm a lot more optimistic about) on Monday. I'm really hoping it'll help.

Just venting,
Ashley
