Just a question.

There are so many religions and so many interpretations, but the way I read it is at the time of the resurrection we will be judged. Judged, not condemned. I believe in a loving forgiving God. No where can I find it said by God in any form that God will judge the living while on this earth.
I can not believe any disaster that happens is anything other than just that, a disaster. Most are a matter of circumstance. Being in the wrong place at the wrong time. If you have done something to keep you from heaven then atone for it but remember you can not change the past only learn from it. All through the bible Jesus forgave his sheep, even demons he removed and did not destroy. Is this not a forgiving God.  I Think you will get to heaven with no trouble at all unless you do something really unforgivable you should get to stay also. The world will not likely end but mans rein on it will and that we will do to ourselves.
Lets start by getting you a better place on earth. Lets see if we can find the root to your anxiety so you can live with it. So we can take away its power.

Here for you,
Davit.

You will notice that some of the things you do people without panic attacks do also. Which brings us back to the question, why you and me and not them. We are looking for a hidden core belief here because you can live with these symptoms and triggers. Other people do. So back to the why. What makes these things so important in your mind that they cause panic. This is how root cores work. Some thing some where has told you it is important to feel oversensitive to things that are not so important to other people. If you find the answer to that you find the trigger to all your other triggers. You can start by accepting it is okay to have these feelings. It is okay to worry. Correct that trigger and all the other triggers lose their importance.

Here for you,
Davit.

Good. Now comes an even more important question. Do you accept and believe it is okay to want a nice safe cage? Because it is. Problem is that because majority rules we are supposed to follow certain patterns. Life never used to be like this. Then along came the industrial revolution and we had to be a part of and we had to fit. Even though some of us don't. I think we have lost a lot of ourselves in the name of fitting in. Question 2. How much does this affect us.

Here for you,

I'm pretty much on par with ashepp33 - I have an irrational fear of dying, and/or the world ending. And so with all the uprising in the Middle East and the disaster in Japan, only a few short years after the devastating earthquake in Haiti, how can you not start to think that? And I'm sure there are people out there who shrug it off, and others who think about that too, but I dwell on it.
I lost my license for a year, lost my job subsequently after just being in my first semester in college, I started having panic attacks.
I guess the root of mine is generally speaking, religion. I know the world will end some day (the Bible tells me so) and I doubt my faith in God, and if I do that - will I even get into heaven?
The rest kind of follows...

Until I started CBT I never thought that religion was the cause. But after a few months of closely monitoring my anxious thoughts, where and why they happen, I think I finally figured it out.

And to answer Vincenza's question, why it helps me to understand it, is now I know what the "root" is, I can  start to figure that out, hit the nail on the head so to speak. And it's important to me to be able to free myself from these panicky thoughts.

Interesting question and responses.  It can be overwhelming if you focus on the 'why' or rather, 'root cause' of panic attacks and excessive anxiety.  Acknowledging the causes may be helpful but more importantly, remind yourselves how far you've come in managing your fears and what steps you have taken that help you get through the more difficult times.  Recognizing the emotions that arise and understanding how to deal with them in a healthy way can prevent them from piling up inside, making it easier to deal with each situation that may arise.  You can look into ways of doing this using The Panic Program.  It is an excellent resource providing information on how to manage panic attacks or feelings of anxiety, tools on how to keep from escaping situations that may trigger panic or anxiety and understanding the panic cycle.  You can learn more about panic attacks (what it is, causes, symptoms etc..) on the Education section of the website.

How does understanding the 'why' help you manage your panic attacks or symptoms of anxiety?  In what way is it important to you? Vincenza, Health Educator

Well, that's something I'm still trying to figure out although I have a few ideas.

I know that I've always had tendencies to worry about my health and symptoms, although never nearly this bad but that's probably a factor. I've also always seemed to have a stronger fear of death than other people, and seem to ruminate on it more than other people (at least I think this is true, I'm not sure how often others think of it).

I've also come to realize that I try to be very nice and this causes me to sweep my feelings under the rug automatically more than is probably good. This is an automatic response and I don't even realize it until the upset feelings come out later.

Finally, I tend to be a bit obsessive so after my first panic attack I've had trouble getting my mind off panic, anxiety, and my health in general.

I think all these things might factor in.

What a great question Davit! I will, no doubt, think on this some more but my initial reaction is about the dragon reference.  I love the analogy (or is it a simile?... I can never remember).  It brings to mind one of my favorite poems, "The Tale of Custard, the Dragon" by Ogden Nash.

Custard is part of a menagerie belonging to a girl named Belinda.  Everyone (except Custard who is a coward) is wonderfully brave and outgoing.... "But Custard cried for a nice safe cage."  They all go through this terrible invasion by a pirate where upon everyone hides... except the cowardly dragon who leaps in to slay the pirate.  They all celebrate and feel brave again, ".... but Custard keeps crying for a nice safe cage."  That's the last line of the poem (it is quite long and rather graphic (although not by today's standards).

In relation to why do I have such awful anxiety ... I do think of Custard and his desire to feel safe.  I get anxious because really bad, real things happened to me... no one rescued me... except scared me and while I learned how to cope with these bad things it has left a legacy of fear and a need to stay alert.... but really all I want is a nice safe cage (agoraphobic that I am).

Since there are so many new people here looking for a cure I thought I would ask this question.
'Why are you having panic attacks or excess anxiety?' Not your triggers or symptoms but why you are having them and some one else isn't. Why You? Think on it. If you are going to chain the dragon up you should know why the dragon is there in the first place.

By the way if your answer is different than some one else's it doesn't matter. the program works the same no matter why.

Just curious. (sort of)
Davit.
