Hello Kevin and welcome to the program! There is clearly lots of great advice and support for you here in our community. I would add that if it is to your liking, you can do the activitites (which are recommended) and there is a link to email your results to your doctor. Optional of course, but it might be a great tool to mark and share your progress.
Good morning Kevin: WELCOME to the site. Everything everyone has posted is true. I won't repeat....just know that we are here - usually someone available pretty quick. Just believe and keep the faith.
I myself have only been here for about two weeks and i can see the improvement already, the relaxation part of the course (which i recommend to do straight after section 1) has been fully integrated into my life and it works very well for me.
make sure you read the success stories but also the setback stories, there will always be setbacks and how well you cope with them will determine your progress. just know you are not alone, if you have any questions or just want to rant (like i do sometimes ) feel free. there is no judgment here.
Welcome and support you will get. Since you know about psych you will know that Ativan works well for break through anxiety except for one thing. It has too short of a half life. I use valium so I don't get rebound anxiety from the come down off Ativan. Valium has a much longer half life so the come down is gentler. Less addictive to.
Yes you will get lots of support here, and advice that I am sure you will use as you think appropriate as we all do. We are all different so not all things work for every one. CBT works and Group therapy is another proven one. Two things you will find here, The group is here for you, and we do care. Welcome to the group.
I've been here since last April, and the coping strategies taught here have changed my life , from being anxious all day, with painc attacks and phobias, to well on my way to recovery.I take celexa 20 mg daily. Althouh I have a Rx for ativan I've only had to take it once! In 10 months. ya!
You say you know alot about psych..good! stick around, we are all here for supporting eachother. Post as much as you like.Have you started on this program yet? you will see how good it is once you get into it.
I am Debi, welcome to the group, i have panic disorder and started getting agrophobic because of it, i am now seeing a psychologist and working on getting well also, this is a great place to be there are lots of people here and we all have a similar problem, we are all working through (some have finished) the program, it is very informative and helpful, think positive about recovery, you were a firefighter for 8 years thats a long time in a stressful job for someone with anxiety, post often as it helps to talk
and I suffer from Generalized anxiety disorder, panic attacks, and agoraphobia. This has taken up the greater part of my life and I am only 32. It started when I was going into grade three with a bout of the stomach bug. Ever since then I have worried about my health. Even with my great setbacks I managed to complete high school and go to college. I was a firefighter for 8 years, I got married to my awsome wife and have two young daughters. Sadly I had to quite the fire service 2 years ago because my panic and anxiety returned with great vegence. To say the least my life has been run mostley by anxiety. This year however I finnaly met a psych doctor that works well with me and I see him every 2 weeks. I have changed my medication from Paxil to Cipralex and though started on a low dose have continually had to increase it to 30mg, I take Ativan for break through anxiety. The last couple of months hve been particularly tough because my whole family including my parents and sisters family all had a very bad stomach bug and colds. The sickness is all gone but I have become very Agorapboic again. That is why I have started this program. i know a lot about psych because thats what I took in college, and the cognitive behavior is a good plan. However somedays I find it hard to work with it. Anyway I need lots of support so here I am.
