Aniexty over Taking SSRI´s (Prozac)

 Hi Queens,

It's never fun to deal with the side effects, but I'm glad it's better than for other SSRIs you've tried. Just think, in a few days maybe you'll start to feel better as the positive effects of the medication kick in!

Please do keep us posted!

Hello Everyone,

I thought that I would update you. I have been taking 5mg of Prozac (liquid form) for about 4 days now. I have some side effects (and they come and go) (nausea, stomach upset, increased nervousness). I think that they have been pretty mild incomparison to the other SSRI's that I have tried in the past. My doctor has told me this is normal. It's not always nice but I hope that I will feel the benefit of taking this medication. I am staying on 5mg for now, and she will up me to 10 mg in about a week or so. I wanted to thank everyone who has posted an replied to my thread and for sharing their own experiences as I do not feel so alone going through this process.

Thank you again. I will update soon.

Hi queens06:  Most of my symptoms came and went.  I was nauseus enough that at times I didn't want to eat, but I made myself eat light meals because I wanted the nutrition and needed to keep hydrated.  I was agitated, perhaps a bit more than usual but I already was before taking the meds. anyway.  It was not so bad that I panicked, just stressed.  I would say it took about 2 1/2 to 3 wks. for me until things calmed down.  I had been going through a rough time with pain this summer and high BP so I was pretty worn out.
Remember to stay in contact with your doctor through the trial period of the 6 wks. or so and speak to him/her about anything, symptoms or thoughts, which may be bothering you.  You have us here too, to support you.  Good luck, and keep posting.

Hi Sunny, Thank you for your support. I will check with my doctor tommorow with regards to my symptoms. Were your symptoms all day long? Did they come and go? Going on medication was a tough choice for me, but I thought that I would give it a try. Thanks again.

Hi Teebs,

Thank you for sharing your story with me. I took 5mg of the Prozac today and did not have many side effects (drowziness mostly). I too am reluctant about taking meds as my previous experiences with paxil and ciprolex were not good. I am hoping that this one has the least amount of side effects....

I will keep you posted.

Hi Queens,

Please talk to your doctor or pharamacist about the side effects you are feeling from the medication. They will be able to advise you if these common and what happens when you increase the dosage.

Good Morning queens06:  I started at 5mg. also, up to 10 now and staying there, but it is Ciprolex.  Usually the symptoms/side effects pass and don't increase within 2 wks. or so.  However, I would check with your doctor about "everything and anything" you are feeling and experiencing.  Hopefully you are not confusing the two together, that is your anxiety symptoms which you already have, especially about taking meds., with your medication symptoms. These two wks. will pass quickly and hopefully your side effects will pass too.  Hang in there and keep the faith.  Post anytime.

Hello Everyone,

Thank you so much for your responces and your overwhelming support! I really appreciate you sharing you advice and suggestions. My doctor suggested that I start on 5 mg of prozac to start since I am very sensitive. Usually 5mg is not available, so I checked with my pharmasist and she gave it to me in liquid form. I felt mixed side effects (nausea, drowziness, increased anxiety, stomatch upset). I am wondering, do the side effects get worse as you increase your dosage?

Queens.

You do not mention if you were given an anti anxiety medication to help you get through the first couple of weeks. Increased anxiety is common with the newer SSRIs. It usually lasts up to two weeks.

I am one of the few here who can not take SSRIs, because what I need is a different class of anti depressant called a Tricyclic. I get violent panic attacks off SSRIs.

Talk to your Doctor about side effects. I know it is tough starting and they really do help but it takes six weeks for full effect.

Post often, we are here to support you.

Here for you.
