The answer to your question is complicated. It is basically this if anxiety or panic is in your family you will have a higher tendency towards it, but it does not mean you can not cure it or that it is the cause of it, or  that you have to have it. It gets complicated because there is a thing called core beliefs that influence you. Most come from your childhood and can be influencing you silently. Over time you can build on them, negative or positive. (good or bad) Till if you are building negatives they break out in panic. So in this sense it could be considered genetic. There is also some school of thought that our parents thoughts and conditioning gets passed on to us and that it goes back three generations. These things only condition us, they only control us if we let them. CBT is a way to change how we think about these things and change the conditioning so that we don't panic over little things, or unnecessarily. Panic disorder is just that, a disorder not a disease. It is very curable. It is work but the program does work as anyone here will tell you.
Keep posting, keep asking anything you want and please do the program. Some one will explain things for you and we are all here for you, you do not have to do this alone.

Here for you.

Ranis.

Welcome. The medication will relieve your panic symptoms after about three months. Will it come back? Yes because you are not curing it you are covering it up. You can live a controlled life on medication or you can gamble that the program will give you the skills to get rid of it. It is a good gamble because CBT is a proven cure. And we are proving it here. The Program works. No phoney shortcuts no hidden charges or books to buy just information from trained specialists and fellow sufferers. It works!

Here for you,
Davit.

Hello Ranis:  WELCOME to this site and the forums.  It can seem overwhelming to read over the program here and there.  I would suggest you do it one chapter at a time.  Little steps at first, one step at a time.  One day you will be able to run and you will be able to help others.  It's almost like a puzzle.  Study and practice each piece, then one day you'll be able to put all the pieces together and get a beautiful picture.

Glad you found us and that you are starting the program.  Ask as many questions as you want.  There is usually someone reading who will respond.  We are friendly and we will support you through good and bad times.  Read past forum entries too.  They are insightful and can provide much inspiration.

Good luck, post again.

Hi Ranis,
Thank you for sharing your story with us. There are many people within this support group that share the same questions and concerns as you.  We are all a group of individuals who support each other.

If you look to the left of the screen under "TOOLS" you will find many supportive tests.  These tests are not diagnostic tools and are not a replacement or substitute for a physician's advice. I suggest you share this information with your doctor by using the options for emailing or printing.

This program is 12-weeks and involves the tools mentioned above.  Each session is based on the previous session, so we strongly advise that you work slowly through the program and not jump ahead.
It's great that you are finding the medication is already working. The program works too and should help prevent your panic from returning, at least in a severe form.

Please continue to strive forward and lean on us for support. Are finding using the diary helpful?
