Tomatoe  ripening contest update....the ones in the paper bag are ahead...just about ripe enough , the ones in the strainer are a little behind!  I will check again tomorrow.

Too soon to tell with the tomatoes..its a tie so far!  They are turning a bit red.
Davit...  I heard about the thick smoke from the fires....I hope you are not  in that area.  I'm thinking of my hubby too...he's hiking up there in Alaska/BC..Chilkoot Trail.

Sunny you make me smile :)

Cleo how's the tomato ripening experiment going?  Maybe I'm asking that question too soon, you know,  like how the watched pot of water, never boils :)

Hey, I just learned a lot about chickens.  See?  you learn something new everyday.  Neat.

Shari.

There are people that replace there hens every year, mostly so they don't have to over winter.
Here also the feed stores order chicks and will put your order with some one else's. Four more chicks with 25 is easy. But I think the best is to look for some one who will part with four that are already grown. Preferably sisters. I like crossbreds because of the different colours. Cheaper than Danish to.

Re: Chicken search.  The hatcheries won't send less than 25 chicks, too many to pack up and evacuate for the bi annual town tornado siren drill.  They seem to be seasonal and harder to find at different times of the year.  We have an Amish Farmer's Market in the country that occasionally sell 1 or 2 chickens, but some times there aren't any available.  Spring is the best shot for a chicken quest.  I'll keep it on the back burner for now, the thought not the chickens :)

Davit,

Where we live, the soil is clay.  So, I'm guessing it's a minus four or five :)  I love milk goats too.  We are zoned for them also.  I always thought it would be cool to make goat milk soap and sell it at a health store.  Re: your ex neighbor.  I have found the same thing.  People remember who you used to be and not take into consideration who you are now.  And, sometimes they never let you forget.  I don't like that feeling.  That's why I take people for who they are now.  Everyone changes and grows :)

Hi guys,
Can't add anything to this discussion ( seeing as I wouldn't  know one chicken from another) except I remember  the Corn Flakes box Chicken...I haven't had that cereal  since I was a kid...I must look down the cereal   aisle when  I do groceries next.
