Sitting: Can sitting too much negatively impact your health?

Samantha.

Sears sells a set of peddles that will fit under a desk. Just peddling slow will help. There are also foot rollers. Speaking of sitting, Think of long distance truck drivers or farmers in there air conditioned tractors, sitting for long hours. Every thing is assisted so you don't actually work. More farmers die in there tractors now. Long distance truck drivers have to have a full medical I think every two years but still they die.

I have to sit to do most things but I move a lot even if it is only from one sit to another.

When sitting at the computer or sitting and reading or sitting and crocheting I am going to try to set time limits for myself and get up and move around every 20 minutes. I do know that if I sit for to long without getting up and moving I become very stiff because of my arthirtis and have sitting for too long without moving. I will use my pain as a marker which is about 30 minutes right now.

Members,

It has been found that prolonged hours of sitting can actually be detrimental to your health. Sitting for long periods of time on a regular basis has been linked to a variety of health problems such as cardiovascular disease. Furthermore, exercising for a few hours a week does not necessarily make up for the risk. The important thing is to try and get up and move around as often as possible. If you work at a desk all day, try to get up every once in a while and move your body! In fact, when standing you burn three times more calories than when sitting.

How will you incorporate more movement into your daily routine? How do you make sure to be active and on your feet?
