Where does Social Anxiety come from?

Cleo:  thanks for the compliment.  I have written children's stories (none published, but many shared with children and parents and sold through charity functions) and I write poetry, (not much now) and have had some poetry published in a literary magazine.  I don't even remember the name of it, but it was also sold in Europe at the time.

Samantha:  The possibilities may have been to grow as a person not only in knowledge but also in spirit and therefore be better equipped to help others and make a difference in the world.  Maybe it's just a drop in the bucket, but if everyone contributes a drop in the bucket, it will overflow. I truly believe in the ripple effect - send good vibes out and they just keep going.  That's why I try hard to stay positive and moving forward.  I know I've made mistakes along the way, but I don't want to give up.  I think I'm a hippy at heart.  You know, all you need is love.

I sometimes have things come to me in the middle of the night and this happened to me last night. I have made a major discovery about why I panic and why I am having trouble dealing with it. So now I know why, I just have to figure out what to do about it. This is going to take some discussing with my therapist but if we can find an answer then I will be able to cross the bridge into normal permanently without having to have guards in place. It will put me in the realm of happy carefree people finally.

Hi sunny,

It is great to hear that you are able to use posting as exposure. Continue to post often and work your exposure therapy. You can always use the exposure planner and tracker session tools to track your exposure and learn even more about how the exposure is helping you.

What possibilities have come from pushing yourself?

Sunny,
What a great quality to possess...good for you for not quitting when things get rough. Your advice to Davit  is so sweet, you also have an excellent way with words!

Davit:  I am so happy for you.  I'm smiling - big smile - for you right now.  Stress is part of life isn't it?  Even happy events cause stress, such as getting married, great new job, a new baby, a new romance.  Imagine how stressful a surprise party is - your adrenalin rushes when you are surprised, your heart beats faster as you greet your friends, etc.  but these happy occasions are positive thoughts - not negative - and so not frightening to us.  There isn't that fear of fear feeding it.

Take extra good care of yourself and let all the new, warm positive thoughts flow over you and refresh you.  You deserve the best.  :)

Hi Cleo:  Even though anonymous, still feel exposed sometimes.  Often people have seen me as confident and not shy because I have succeeded in my goals - but what they don't know is that I have had to push myself all the time.  Sometimes I feel tired pushing so hard, but I'm not a quitter.  I can say that about myself.  Sometimes I see (in my volunteer work) it's not about me anyway, so let's focus on the job and get it done.

Hi Sunny,
Sorry, I messed up...typed Davit instead of Sunny. And I didnt realize you were still shy about posting here...good for you to be able to do it then! I look forward to your posts.
I obviously..(sometimes I reread my posts, criticize myself for  going on & on) have taken to this like a fish to water....I think its because its anonymous..and I can finally be me, admit my  problem, and feel accepted.  If we were in person though, all my fears/insecurities would surface and I probably would have a very hard time talking.

I thought you might still have trouble with posting, but you have always been there for us and for that I thank you. It too is like exposure for me some times and some times I have to do a lot of editing before I get it right. I have started a new relationship since the last one failed and it is hard to believe that something that is so much pleasure can cause so much stress. Every little thing sends me down the negative road and on top of it the antibiotic causes anxiety. If not for CBT I would be back on Meds just to survive. Lots of ups and downs, and "what ifs" but I know this will pass. Been here before so I know what to expect.

Hi Cleo:  Did you mean Davit or Sunny? last post.  If you meant me about not being shy posting here, actually I still am.  I feel like it's exposure for me doing this.  Not always, but some.

Davit,
Could be. Strange about you not remembering your BD's...and I see how your mother's labelling of you as shy made you shy. Thank Goodness you're not shy here!
