hello Eric, nice to meet you and welcome to the site!
You mentioned how your life seems perfect but perfection can come with pressure... do you feel any pressure from your life? I used to feel like my strength is not enough but as long as you keep at it, your strength will grow and your knowledge of your strength will grow (it's just so hard to see it sometimes). You did a great step at starting here! For me venting here and organizing and expressing my thoughts here has given a lot of clarity to my situations and confusion in my life, so good job, and keep at it! What do you think of seeing a counselor or therapist? For some people it works, I've heard, and it may clear things up without the meds for some too. Best wishes!!
I plan on doing that - I just know he is going to suggest putting me on Lexipro though. Isn't that what doctors do? Put people on meds? But who knows.. Maybe Lexipro would help?
You are strong enough, trust me, you really are. Anxiety has a bad habit of trying to make you believe something that isn't true... you don't have to buy what it is selling you. Start the program as soon as you can, write down your thoughts too.
I also found that chamomile tea helped a great deal , so much so that I have stopped drinking coffee and use the chamomile tea. I wish I could be there to help you, I know what you are going through . If it is just too much , I so encourage you to speak with your physician, he/she may be able to help you as well.
Welcome to the site! You will find many kindred spirits here who are and have battled anxiety. Have you spoken with your doctor in regards to your concerns or is there a mental health service in your area? I don't know how it works in the U.S. but when I had my first attack I found help at the local mental health service (they are the ones who pointed me towards this site. )They in turn enrolled me in a group session and also I was able to speak with a social worker.
The paniccentre is a wonderful site filled with information and tools that you can use to help get a handle on your anxiety, as well there are many on the forum who can help because they themselves have gone through it. I am myself working through it now and have been for a little while.....it does help a great deal. I am sure though many will tell you to be patient and follow the program.....it takes time and a lot of work but the fact that you posted means you are willing to make the effort.
Hang in there , post as often as you like ...there will always be someone here to listen and encourage you.
I'm Eric. I'm from New York. I'm 39, male, married and have a 4 1/2 year old son. My life is what most would consider perfect. EXCEPT, over the last few months, I have developed this panic disorder. Not really sure what brought it on, but it has consumed me. I'm fearful every day that I'm going to die, that something awful will happen to my loved ones, getting old, etc. It seems to be getting closer and closer to affecting me so much at work, that I'm scared that my coworkers will notice and that I will get fired. I have terrible thoughts of being put in a straight jacket.
I'm intelligent, and have always been prone to anxiety - just not like this. I NEED this to go away.
I have so many great things in my life and I want to enjoy them.
I hope this site can help me. Sometimes I feel like there is no hope and I'm going to be stuck with these attacks for the rest of my life. I seem to be having 2-3 a day now, but even when not in the middle of a full-on attack, I have the anxiety.
