Think I'm dying.....all the time

Brandie,

Have you gone through the program tools?  I encourage you to try some relaxation techniques such as box breathing or progressive muscle relaxation to help ease the anxiety (you will find the instructions to these exercises in your toolbox).

Practicing these relaxation techniques before bed and as soon as you open your eyes in the morning can get you into the calmest state and prevent the attacks from rebounding in the morning.  Also try journalling your frustrations before employing your relaxation techniques at night.

It may take a few tries before your body get used into the habit of being calm.  Be sure to also check out sessions 2 and 3 which teaches you how to recognize and challenge anxious thoughts.

Let us know how your appointment with your psychiatrist goes.  We are here for support when ever you need us, just post!

There is at least once a day that I just feel like I can't take it anymore. Like this morning I got up to go to breakfast like any other saturday morning. I had been up for 2 hours in the night with anxiety symptoms as like every other night. I was anxious prior to getting there and just prior to leaving I had to get out fast. I just couldn't take it anymore. Then comes the dizziness, the edginess, the everything is getting on my nerves. I tried so hard to make it home without popping a Xanex, but I couldn't do it. I have to take at least 1-1/2 of them everyday (.25 mg tablets). When I take it about an hour an half I feel so much better, but then I just cry because I had to take it. I have a terrible fear of becoming dependant on them.  I'm still waiting til the 2nd to see my psych. about trying a new medication. Again, I have a horrible fear of that since I had such a bad reaction to the last one. Sometimes I just lie down and think if I don't wake up it will be ok, but how will my little boy live without his mommy. Why do I go from high anxiety to severly depressed in just a matter of hours? I kinda of like the depression better because all you do is cry and you don't have the racing thoughts or all the wierd sensations. I really do love this board and I like to share things as well as reading what others have to say. It's not like the others where you get alot of negative feedback from whackos trying to be funny.

Welcome aboard, Shana!  I've definitely had those feelings, to the point where I completely shut down...couldn't talk, was basically stuck in a stupor.  But with the great help here, things are getting better, everyday!  Look forward to seeing you around the board!

Thank you to you both.  CM....you sound just like me.  I could travel the world (well, if I didn't have travel anxiety, lol) and lecture about everything regarding panic disorder, but I can't help myself.  It's so frustrating to have all this good information, but I don't have the ability to use it on myself.  I just started the program myself and am very happy to have a "study buddy".  Good luck to you and please keep me updated on your progress.

Hi Ya ShanaSuzanne:

You are not alone.  I have been suffering from Panic, GAD and depression on/off for over 2 years now.  Right now I feel the same way as you, as if my life is spiraling out of control.  I really do believe this goes in phases and this one right now I feel as if I'm going to lose my mind and can't take anymore.  But having said that, you know what every time I say I can't take anymore I still get up the next day and go on to face another day.

And yes it just zaps the energy right out of you trying to battle this day after day.  I have read so many books on the subject and was even told by one of my social workers that I could teach people on the subject.  But you know what even after having read all those books I can't put them into practice, I'm sorry to say.

I have told myself that I should start a journal to record all the times I whipped myself into a frenzy over things that never happened or if they did were not as bad as I envisioned and then the next time I start to get into a frenzy just look at the book to remind myself to stop and think about all those other times.  Maybe you could try something like that in response to all the times you have thought you were going to die because of symptoms you had and hey you are still alive today.  What do you think of that idea?  Having said that I haven't started doing this yet so how about we start it together and see how it goes, hey it couldn't make matters any worse?

Let me know how it goes, I've already started.

I'm usually the one helping others.  I tell them that everything will be okay, and panic can't hurt you.  I can't seem to do the same for myself.  I'm having problems with TMJ, GERD and IBS.  My body feels like it is shutting down on me.  I'm so stressed and feel out of control.  I keep going to the ER thinking there is something serious going on only to be told that there isn't.  It's too much.  Every different sensation, pain, anything going on in my body leads me to believe I'm just going to up and die.  Anyone else have this problem?  I feel alone.  I need help.  I can't keep doing this.
