I did finally get to sleep. But Im havin yet another round of attacks. And Im supposed to be going to stay at my gf's house tonight. I tried to do some box breathing, jus to calm myself down enough to get to her place (which is only 5 mins away). I am standing FIRM in my refusal to avoid her place ( I am usually more prone to have attacks at her place). I keep telling myself that avoidance is not a cure. And that I am strong. And I am NOT crazy. I recognize the symptoms and know that it's a panic attack. They're not as severe as they used to be in the beginning and don't last as long either. They're just REALLY annoying & frustrating LOL

I HAVE started to notice that my back seems like it is CONSTANTLY hurting in between my shoulder blades. Nothing that I do seems to relieve it... Stress related?

Hi TexanFemme,

I am sorry your were having a difficult night last night.  How did you feel after you posted?  Were you able to get to sleep?

Hopefully your therapist will call soon.  Let us know when she does.

So here I am again...

Having small attacks, one after the other... Been trying to sleep for about an hour now... Tried the box breathing and it's not working. Started to try the muscle relaxation but I can't calm down enough to go through the steps. So I thought I'd get on here & post what's going on...

The counseling center called on Thurs to tell me that my therapist would be calling me that day or Fri to schedule an appointment but she hasn't called yet (which is starting to annoy the hell outta me). Ugh!

The box breathing basically gave me something else to focus on instead of focusing on the beginnings of an anxiety attack. And I will definitely continue to use it

Yes that's right Texan! Go you! Thanks for updating us on how it went!

How did the box breathing help you get through that moment? Will you continue to use box breathing?

Members, how has box breathing helped you get through moments of anxiety?

Last night was good. I feel asleep on the couch for about an hour. My gf let me sleep; she even lit some sandalwood oil & put on some calming music for me

I eventually woke up & got in bed. I felt the attack trying to start but I did some box breathing & stopped it from getting out of control. GO ME!

I GREATLY appreciate your responses. I can't see my therapist until sometime at the end of this week or early next week. And Im not sure if I wanna take any meds bcuz I don't wanna become a zombie &/or lose my sex drive (my wife wouldn't enjoy that LOL) Im actually on my way to her place npw (which is where I have the more sever attacks). But I refuse to become a recluse & avoid her place. I know that avoidance is NOT the answer.

I will keep y'all posted on how tonight goes. I feel like it will be ok for one, because Im exhausted and two, Im not really feeling overly anxious right now

 Hi

I've been there and worse so I know what I have to say won't help right now. Panic attacks are real not something in your head. But I am living proof and so are a lot of people out there that they can be stopped. And yes there are herbal remedies that work. You may need to take medication for a while just to stop it till you can get answers and you need answers and the best place for answers is a good therapist. Just knowing why is a big step. I'm not cured yet but they are so mild and I have a routine that stops them so they are more like mental diorhea. A nuisance but not life thretening. You may have noticed that if you write down what is happening the first thing you will notice is that what is happening is not supposed to. In my case I would wake up thinking something claustraphobic and I'd be really freeking. That and sitting on the toilet. But when I wrote it down I'd realize that it was something that there is no way I would do. That was a start. I'd also make a cup of Lemon Balm tea and read over what I wrote while I drank it. Try to ignore the racing pulse but if you can't you may need a Beta blocker which will slow it in about 15 minutes or less.  The program will work but it will take time so if you need medication do it with the thought that it is a temporary evil.  Keep posting. it helps to talk about it. Remember this is curable, it just takes time.

I'm in the same boat as you are....my last "major" panic attack was last Sunday night....heart pounding out of chest, dizziness, not feeling "in my body", uncontrollable shaking, cold hands/feet....
Can't get to see my psychiatrist for 4 weeks...My PCP gave me Ativan to hold me over till then... Had to take 3 last night just to sleep....
Yeah, try not getting to "sleep" until 1am and then waking up at 5:30am to work a 12-hour shift as a nurse....not fun!

Always fearing that the next attack is around the corner...

I'm reading books on how to relax, herbal rememdies....I'm trying but nothing is working so far....

I'm here with ya!  This absolutely stinks!

Hi Texan,

I am sorry you are going through a very difficult time right now but we are here for you.  Have you started working your way through the program?  You will find it to be a big help.  Have you talked to your doctor or counselor about your panic?

What is different in your life now from when you did not have trouble with panic?

Keep in mind panic can be managed.  Keep working on the program and posting.  We will get through this together.
