Mental Health Insurance

I guess I'm really fortunate. My life insurance plan covers a good portion of my salary while I'm off work, and my supplementary drug coverage covers a large  portion of my prescription drug costs (anxiety medication and anything other prescription not related to anxiety), plus a nice bonus of covering massage therapy to help with the anxiety. I'm very thankful.

In relation to Ashley's post from yesterday, today we will be talking about health care plans in relation to mental illness.

Most sufferers of depression have found that the coverage offered by health care plans in relation to mental illness is often far more limiting in terms of what is covered, especially when compared to physical illnesses. Costs for covering treatment of depression or other mental illnesses are often very high and some individuals find that certain treatment methods or medications are not covered by their health care plan. The New Freedom Commission on Mental Health suggests that even half of those suffering from depression do not seek treatment due to financial restrictions.

What are your reactions to this news? What has your experience been with your health care coverage?
