Medication Woes

Hang in there, Kitt.  One of the things with changing all medications, is that the body has to readjust.  This is always a tough transition, particularly within the first couple weeks.  And I know the feeling of general anxiety, thats the thing I'm dealing with now.  Funny thing is, there may be no particular thought or situation that causes the anxiety, just the thoughts themselves.  Makes it kind of hard to challenge, but hang in there!

I've heard about remeron.  It's a relatively new class of anti-depressant, and everyone I have known has suffered quite bad side-effects.
 
If any side-effects of your medication do not subside within 2 weeks, you should always seek guidance from your doctor/psychiatrist.  
 When I suffered from depression, I tried 4 different drugs before I was given Fluexotine (prozac) and it worked wonders.
 
 I'm afraid the sweating is a common side-effect of stress and anxiety.  It's uncomfortable, but it will subside.

I am sure that with persistance you will find the right drug(s) to aid you, but don't let it just be drugs alone to help.  Your mind is an intregate and complex mechanism, and you need to adjust your thoughts as well as the chemicals which affect mood.

Thanks for the words of encouragement, everyone.  They're really heart warming.  I went to my Doctor and she prescribed me some Ativan and a sleeping pill.  She figures the increased anxiety is a side effect of the Wellbutrin and anticipates it will decrease as my body becomes accustomed to it.  She also increased my Wellbutrin. 
I am still not doing very well in my personal life.  The only place I am functioning well is at work.  And even there things are becoming quite difficult.  I am taking two Ativan a day at work-once in the morning before going and once at lunch time.  And even the Ativan doesn't seem to take the edge off.  I am sweating profusely all the time.  I mean profusely-like sweat rolling down my face.  It's generalized anxiety-nothing specific.  If you asked me what I was anxious about, I couldn't tell you.  I've been trying to do relaxation, but I can barely sit still for it.  My hubby drew me a bath last night, which I usually really enjoy.  But could hardly enjoy at all.  I had racing thoughts in my head that just wouldn't go away!  I went to the gym the other night with my hubby, which was helpful.  But he won't go again and I just can't bring myself to go alone.   Now I'm really scared because my hubby is going away on business and will be gone for 4 days.  I can't imagine being alone with myself like this for that long!  And, my friend is having a birthday party this weekend and I'm not sure I can do it, but am really worried about offending her.  Sorry this is all so negative guys.  I know-one day at a time and this will pass.  I know it will because I just have to get my meds right again.  It may be uncomfortable, but it will be resolved.

It's all about the little successes.  Sounds like you had a good balance of both good and bad, so congratulations on keeping yourself yin and yang(ed)! 
 
I do understand the complexities of dealing with anxiety, so just remember one thing during your struggle:  sometimes we just have to take the one little good thing that moment offers us, that we're trying.  It's all about the little stuff!  Keep up the good work!
 
And for the meds, you know what you can live with.  This one may have worked, but there may be another one that works better!  Stay strong kitty, you're doing real good with the decisions you're making.

Make sure to take a list to your doctor of all of the things you would like to talk about during your appt. 

Keep challenging your anxious thoughts. If you don't think you can make it out of the house try to sit on the door step for a while or on the front patio. If you've made it this far, you could try to go for a small walk around the block; often times people say that exercise helps to calm their anxious thoughts and helps with the extra anxious energy.

Hello KittKatt , good to see you again but not for the reasons your back . Apart from it is great to see you are working thats quite something .
 
The medication is up to you and from what i have read you seem to be quite sensible about that . You must do whats right for you . I hope you find a med that helps you without the weight gain . Good luck :)

Thank you so much for the support everyone.  It is very much appreciated.  I'm glad to hear some support for this medication change.  Some of my friends think it was unwise of me to change because I found a medication that took away all of my mental health symtoms and let me function well.  They think I should just learn to live with the weight gain.  I would definitely go back to Mirtazapine if I can't find another medication that helps me, but I'd at least like to try. 
I am still feeling pretty rotten, but am hoping to make it through to my Dr. appointment on Thursday where I can get some more Ativan!  In the meantime, I would really like to just stay in my house.  It's when I leave that I start feeling quite anxious.  But I must go to work, so I force myself to do that.  I've noticed that I've starting sweating profusely whenever I'm anxious!  It's really embarassing.  I was talking to a customer yesterday in a cool room and I was sweating a lot! The sleep is also wearing me down.  I do sleep, but I do not feel well-rested at all and cannot sleep for very long.  I am doing relaxation twice per day.  It is very hard for me to stay still and try to relax during the exercises.  I'm just so agitated!  I know I should be going to the gym too, but that would involve leaving the house...  I will also leave the house if my husband comes with me, but he thinks I'm being ridiculous and won't agree to go out with me.  :(  I'm thinking of taking a day off this week if I continue to feel this way.

I wish I had advice for you but except for this one prescription PRN, I have been off meds a very long time. I did want to say hang in there as experiementing is the only way to figure things out. Trust yourself and talk to your doctors often! And please come here for support and to keep us posted!

Isn't the weight thing awful?  I have gained about 15 pounds since upping my meds this past spring due to a relapse when I stopped nursing my youngest one.  It can be very frustrating.
 
As for changing meds, I've never done that but do know that it can take up to 8 weeks minimum to find a balance.  Everyone is so different and no one quite has the same experience.  I do remember with me my anxiety got worse before it got better..but after sticking it out I was glad.
 
You're probably also dealing with a bit of withdrawal from your other meds which I understand can be quite difficult as well.  Be patient with yourself and be sure to keep your lines of communication open.  This too shall pass... look at all the strides you've made this past year.

I agree with Sarah in that, you know you, and meds always take time to actually produce results.  From what I recall, quitting meds cold turkey can produce the edgy results you have.  Stopping the meds at a slower rate can help.  For the time being, look for something that helps.  For instance, watching tv or reading a book helps me sleep much better.
