Tips for Relaxing @ Work

While in therapy with a very stringent CBT practitioner,  I came up with the quote "don't substitute coffee for nutrition".  I find that if I bring small healthy snacks and devour them at strategic times in the day, I maintain a steady state.  Perhaps related to blood sugar, as the diabetics would put it "glycemic index" of food choices.  Compare this to reaching for a coffee every time the eyelids begin to droop.  By the end of the day I'm a combination of tired and wired.
 
In a noisy office, I'll wear earplugs to damp the racket.  Not always acceptable.  I can often find music distracting if too loud or what I'm working on requires heightened concentration.
 
Quick steps outside the building are brilliant and I often finding myself sneezing out the dust once I get out into the fresh air. And they say exposure to a bit of warm sun is good, and looking up at blue sky is recommended by my doctor to combat depression.
 
Taking lunch hour to do stretching or treadmilling always makes the afternoon go smoother
 
Scanning one's body for areas of tension and consiously releasing it. (how about those clenched teeth?)

°          Practice your deep breathing. Deep breathing improves circulation and eases muscle tension.

°          Check your e-mail. Subscribe to a messaging service that will send you daily jokes or inspirational quotes. A few funny or inspiring words can help lift your spirit and gain perspective

°          Turn on your radio: Classical music has been shown to induce relaxation. Have it on in the background or tune in online. Many radio stations now have live feeds via the internet.

°          Stretch! Take a few minutes in between long tasks to take a stretch break. It can help increase alertness, improve blood flow and relieve tension.
