Wow, I have gotten great answers and great avenues to explore to try and figure all of this out! Thank you so much Danielle, Maggie and Maria.I really appreciate your help with this. I will definetely think on all the things you have shared with me and all the questions you have asked me about this. I am sure it will help me figure this out. And yeah, I guess me figuring out the why is only important if it helps me figure out the how to deal with this in the present :)Thanks again guys, it is great to be able to come here and get such great insights from people who understand :)I find all that was said very helpful and fully intend to think on it and find good strategies to deal with this in the present :) -Diva

Hi Diva, Happy New Year! All my data was erased and I haven't been able to login to this site for a couple of weeks! This is a very interesting reaction your having and a couple of thiings stuck me right away. I have had this before and what I realized was that, for me, the anxiety was about the impression of not having that wonderful carefree freedom anymore. I wanted to be transported back to those times when I perceived things were less complicated and I was anxiety free. The transition from that memory to present day caused the friction and anxiety for me. I could be totally off but it's an interesting angle to contiplate. The second thing was when you said that dealing with the present is a more efficient way to get better. SO true! My CBT coach would often tell me that it's sometimes not important to have the "why" answered. If you can't challenge the anxious thoughts then challenge the sensation. Confront the sensation and let it know it's not going to get the best of you. I beleive session 9 of this program deals with challenging sensations. I hope this helps. Many good wishes to you. Maria :)

Diva, You've gotten a great response from your fellow colleague. I would have to agree there must a common anchor in those memories. Any idea as to which one and why? What do you do when these surges of panic occur? Anything you could change about your strategy? Danielle, Bilingual Health Educator

Hi Diva, there is obviously a trigger there that sets you off. Is it your Mom (and I don't mean that in a bad way), maybe the room you were in, the music, time of the season...I know it could even be the music for me which would remind me of a trigger. Can you remember a smell that was happening at that time, maybe your Mom was cooking also at that time, maybe it was the security you felt with her dancing in the room, very carefree and this triggered you when you went walking with your husband. I'm just trying to remember my EMDR session when my counsellor would try and set the mood for my triggers. She would ask me what time of day it was, what season it was, was there any smells that stood out, who was there with you, where were you, any particular clothing, or colours of fabric that stood out, any detail at all to help set up the "mood"...maybe that would help you out to try and figure out what your trigger was. I hope this helps a bit.

Hiya! Tonight I have experienced something really annoying that makes me pretty anxious once again...I was having a very cold yet pleasant walk with my husband and a songpopped in my head. And it reminded me of a really happy memore of my childhood. It reminded me of dancing in the living room with my mom to get some exercise in on days where it was too cold to stay out long. We had so much fun doing that! And then BAM! This surge of anxiety and panic hits me! It seems that often, when I think of the past, wether I think of the good or the bad times, I get this overwhelming surge of anxiety and panic. I understand feeling like that when I think of the times in my life that were scary or sad or tough in any way. What I don't get is why this happens to me when I think of the good times.I am there having a happy memore and then panic...Just always surprises me. I can't seem to be able to figure out what makes me anxious about those thoughts! And since I can't figure out what makes me anxious, it makes it tough to challenge anything! And it is not like I haven't worked on my past, I had therapy long enough to have plenty of time to work through that stuff. It is actually once I stopped "dealing with my past" and started working on improving my present that I started getting better most efficiently. Anyway, if anyone has gone through this or has any insight on this or on what to do with this, please let me know! Have a good night! -Diva
