Isabella, thank you for the companionship and optomistic support. I was diagnosed with bi-polar disorder. I definately concur. Somedays are great, others are blue. There are times when I am in the middle, but not often. Jeremy, I definately understand your pressures at work. I am not a software writer, but a dentist. I'm sure you have heard about our "suicide" statistics. With my startup company, the pressures are great. Definately a manic depressive launch pad. In addition, our software writers have been nothing short of a world class jerks. They work is always bug-ridden and they don't answer the phone. It makes the process very aggravating. What type of software are you writg for? Text

Hey Bob, Jeremy here. I also suffer from panic disorder, and I have a high stress job as a software engineer in a startup company. I also don't like this position, and I'm applying for a less stressful technical support position. Do you think much of your stress is related to work? I don't want to get consumed in my career, and I believe continuing my work as a software engineer will consume me! Feel free to chat sometime on the buddy thing, I am on often.

Bob, Welcome to the Panic Center. I have suffered from Panic Disorder for about 3 years now and I also have agoraphobia. I started this program several weeks ago and I find that it is really helping me. I also see a psychologist as well but the site is good for talking about your issues with people who totally understand what you are going through. It is also nice to read about your disorder and understand what you are going through. I wanted to ask you, why do you think you are bipolar? Have you been diagnosed and if so, are you on any meds? As far as your fears of breathing difficulty and g.i. distress, I can empathize with you there. I hate feeling nauseated and short of breath. I find that breathing exercises really work. You need to do them constantly to get the hang of it but once you do, you will notice that the smothering feeling and the shortness of breath go away. I breath in thru my nose to a count of 5 or 6, hold for a second, breath out thru your mouth to a count of seven or eight. This slows the heart rate and also reduces blood pressure. Maybe it will work for you. And you are soooo right, this is no way to live. But you are making positive steps to take back control of your life. Good luck with everything, stay strong, and keep me posted ;)

Thanks Danielle. Can you tell me where to access the information for the program?

Buster, Welcome to the Panic Center and thanks for letting us get to know you a little better! Start working through the program and learning about panic disorder. Surf through the forums and do a little reading, there's lots of experiences out there you can learn from. If you have any questions or just need someone to listen, we are always here. I have had bouts of panic / anxiety attacks for the better part of my life (I am 42) since my teenage years. I am not exactly sure what triggered my first one. I would definately say that I am bi-polar. I am in a high stress profession (which I dislike.) I have not been successful with my financial planning, so I live paycheck to paycheck. I started a software company (on the side) about four years ago, and have been actively working on that every moment which I have free. It has pretty much consumed my life. The product is excellent as a result. I guess my point is that I am always burning the candle at both ends. I have been diagnosed with "garden variety" agorophobia. I also suffer from claustrophobia and acrophobia (fear of heights). Stimuli include: travel into cities bridges flying airports boats ( in the ocean ) tunnels open spaces smog / fog suggestion of phyical problem from another person roadways with exits set far apart stadiums / arenas I find that valium and / or alchohol help to relax me so the fear is not as intense. It has affected my relationships, both in work and personnaly. I have a tradeshow coming up in a big city (close to home) and I know that there will be heavy traffic in and out. This, in addition to having to be in a very large expedition center deviates from my normal routine. My main symptoms are fear of breathing difficulty and G.I. distress. I will definately have alchohol and valium with me in case. I have no problem meeting people, as well as being a very engaging conversationalist This is no way to live. I hope this program will help. Thank you.
