You asked what I drank in social drinking situations. I just stuck with whatever it was that I wanted at the time. I workout and count calories. When I drank I factored in the staggering number of alcohol calories I would be consuming that night which left me with minimal “food” calories. So when I went to a social gathering I would make it a point to treat myself. I love coffee so my treat was often some kind of high calorie coffee drink, one that I would never all myself to have otherwise. If the gathering happened to be where food was provided or served, I would order something that I would never have otherwise. I guess it came down to me having something that didn’t make me feel like I was being deprived. Quite the opposite, I was being treated. I found I had to do anything to get through the situation.
