Hi Dani,

Thank you for posting so honestly. It sounds like drinking is having a huge impact on your physical health, mental health and work life. It also sounds like you want to change to be prepared for your wedding. I think your fear of starting this new job is warranted. Being around "trigger" situations like other people drinking and social pressure to drink is very dangerous when you already have an issue with drinking. Normally we would only recommend being in those situations if you felt confident in your abstinence or moderation. This confidence normally takes quite a bit of practise to develop. I think you should listen to your gut on this and be highly prepared or put off working in a high trigger job until you feel healthier with the drinking. The program and this group can help you with either of those suggestions. Keep us updated on how you are doing. You do not have to go through this alone.

Dani,
Here where I live there are lot of young people in AA these days. They get into the fellowship pretty quick. See if you can find a group that you can associate with. As I said, you dont have to get old to be an alcoholic and I am not branding you as an alcoholic. Just a suggestion. You may also visit aa.org and read the book Alcoholics Anonymous especially the stories "Bills Story" and chapter "More about alcoholism".

Welcome Dani!
It takes a lot of courage to post here and be honest like you were. It is certainly a positive first step.  You say that you can’t stop drinking and it is ruining your health and work life. You have the self awareness to realize that it may be time to make a change but are worried about what others may think. This is a worry of all of us who quit drinking I think.  But quitting drinking is possible and such a positive thing in the end. There are lots of books, web sites etc to support you in dealing with others if you decide to quit.
Best of luck Dani in your journey!

Hi, I'm a young female living in Canada, and I can't stop drinking. It's ruining my life. It gives me seizures (I'm epileptic), it makes me angry and mean, depressed, and I've failed 3 jobs in the past six months. I didn't think I had a serious problem, but I was told that getting drunk every day is not a good sign... I'm getting married in a few months, and I want to be healthy for my special day.

I'm starting a job as a tattoo artist, and it seems like the other workers drink a lot and go out after work for beers... I'm scared of getting dragged into this lifestyle and not being able to quit!! And what if they don't like me if I don't drink with them?? I don't know. I'm terrified.
