Thank you for sharing your story with us.

I am so glad you recovered and you are healthy now! Amazing!

How have you been able to stay off the alcohol since then?

My story is I am 58 years old, drank heavy for 43 years.
One day my legs started swelling badly, since I had never been to a Doctor, I guessed I had Edema in my legs, water was running out my pours. Finally one day I was drunk as usual   and felt I could not breath properly even though I do not smoke for 16 years.
I called the Ambulance and that's the day I quit drinking as well as my health dwindled on a thread in intensive care.
They tried to put a intervenes in my neck and ripped a main artery as I was moving around a lot , this causing a large hematoma from my ear down to around my collar bone. After All the Bleeding and they fixed me, even though I was out, My body went into shock. My kidneys were almost not working , so I needed dialyses, My liver was OK but a little fat around it. Also I got ammonia, all such things were stable, but after guiting drinking cold turkey in Hospital, I houlisinated very much for  a what seemed few days to a week  ,I was lucky also I slept and dreamed threw my with drawls of booze. The dreams are very clear in my mind even after 4 and 1/2 months, My health is back to normal, My new family Doctor says I have made a giant comeback after never seeing a Doctor in over 40 years. She can`t believe it. I am tested regular threw specialists and my Doctor. I will miss my Imported beer tastes as well as premium Liquors , but my health is more important to me and my family. I f I never would have got sick I would have never quit drinking, I am one lucky man
