Welcome to the forum Smith12. Majority of the folks may just be fine with just 1 or 2 drinks. Some dont even touch alcohol. Then there people who drink hard but then if they see the consequences they could stop or moderate.

But then there is a small percentage of people who can't stay away from booze. For some odd reasons they keep going back to alcohol or other substances. They lower their bottom. They may lose relationships, jobs, houses, multiple duis, incarceration sometimes even death. Occasionally some awaken to the fact that they cant stay away from alcohol on their own. Then they take action.

Hi Fritz,

Welcome to the group. Recognizing that you want to work on this takes a lot of courage. So give yourself some credit just for coming here. The more you put thought into this lifestyle change the more likely you will be able to make the change. You mention there is a part of no return when you are drinking. Do you know when that point is? Are you able to identify it?

Are you hoping to completely abstain from alcohol or moderate? What would you like your goal to be?

Good morning Fritz. Well, one thing is 100 per cent certain. You've come to a forum of alcoholics who are at various stages in their addiction. If you read through some of the posts, you'll get an idea of what I mean. There is no one right answer or piece of advice that is going to resolve your alcohol dependency like a "silver bullet." That said, you will receive solace knowing that you are not alone and that nothing you have done or will do while intoxicated will surprise the majority of us. I pray a lot, but that is my way of coping with this crippling disease, anxiety and depression. I am sure you will hear (well, I mean see other posts) from others. Nice meeting you electronically.

Yes, I can relate to that. After work, I will drive into a gas station for A beer but I will make several trips back to the package store/gas station throughout the evening. Worst part was I couldn't stay stopped. I would always go back to that 1st drink. Our mind tricks us back into taking that drink. We come up with excuses, blame on the spouse, blame the kids, work.. you get it.

Don't really know how this all works looking to learn some self control I guess. When I start drinking there comes a point when I can't stop enough just isn't enough. I'll drink till I black out or pass or become quite rude and out of control. I binge drink quite a bit but as well I have found it creeping into my life like beer after work coming home late and drunk. Well thanks for listening and hope this place can hole me thanks

Fritz
