Hi Worthy,

I am glad you found us and you are taking steps forward. The more you work on your plan to abstain or moderate, the more you think about, the more likely you will get there. It often takes time and lots of thought but you will get control over this.

Have you tried to quit or cut back in the past? What did you learn from those experiences?

Welcome Worthy,  I too had a lot of difficulty quitting drinking.  I quit a number of times but always went back.  Once I finally decided that it was not a temporary thing, that I had to quit for good, then I gathered lots of tools to take me through the tough times.  You do need tools for support and for everyone it is different: AA, online support, books, blogs, exercise, meditation, rehab, your doctor etc etc. If it hasn't worked to date, you will need to change things up.  It is difficult but it is possible and it is so worthwhile. If I can do it, so can you.  Keep posting to let us know how you are doing.

but yet I drink anyways

Thats that utter inability to stay sopped no matter what. our mind tricks us into believing this time its going to be alright. I will just have a couple. But then another form of desire kicks in. The mind asks for more than what you originally planned flow. This is powerlessness we talk about in AAs 1st step. Mental and physical cravings. Un-Manageability is, we can't handle our emotions. Which then leads us back to the 1st drink. Its a vicious cycle.

Been on here for a bit - I get a lot of what I "see", I'm so done, but yet I drink anyways....  all I think is "so lame, I hate this" - while I drink....
